would be a pity...
should be a skateboarding heritage site.
At least dismantle professional and reconstruct in a public SF skatepark
with pier 7, hubba hideout, 3rd and army  and EMB replica.

Hell no that would ruin it. Sucks when a spot has to die but don’t put it in a skatepark for every 17 year old to spend all day making their slowmo trap edits at. It’s a street spot and it should die a street spot.
I don't think the thing that really sucks is losing iconic spots, as much as every new potential spot is designed so it can't be skated. If we lost one spot but saw others pop up it wouldn't hurt as much when we do lose great/iconic spots.

Wonder if I could skate it if I go there next summer, or if it'll be gone by then. All I want is to carve over a small bench.

Bummer.

That spot was scary. I remember the fear of going over the wall was intense.

Drehobl's runs on that spot were insane.

Oh shit. I just went there last month for some skate tourism. It's a big COVID testing site now. Glad I got to check it out. It's way shittier to skate than it looks in pics

I got to go to San Fran for 10 days a few years back, stayed with my cousin.
Of course is did some skate tourism, walked around, saw the Cardiel Golden rail and stuff.

My friend gave me directions to the China Banks, and I went there with visions of the Bones Brigade carving over the benches, thinking I’d do a few, and split.

When I got there, I was like fuck. They are almost not even banks, they’re more like walls. I rolled up a couple times trying to kick turn and was like ‘Nope”.

My dreams were fading fast. The banks are steep with only a tiny bit of tranny at the bottom.

I scaled down my goals and was like “Maybe I can wallride onto one of the benches”.

Started trying, but gave up. It was hard.

I sat down and looked at the benches for a while. I was lucky, no one was there, and decided to see if I could go fast, how far I could carve across a bench.

Tried again, faster than before. The speed and low approach angle helped me get through the tight tranny, but wasn’t coming anywhere near clearing the bench.

Feeling disappointed, I sat down again, ready to give up. Even if I made it over the bench, can I make it through the tight tranny again?

I finally thought that I’d probably never have another chance to skate here, so I gave it one more go. Started pushing at like 80 or 90% my top speed, and started clearing a short bench.

A few more tries, and I finally put down a carve over. I’m not much of a skater, I don’t really battle for tricks, so that took me a while. And it was the best souvenir I could have gotten from my trip to SF.

So if you go there before they demolish it, go fast

Resistance to the planned bridge demolition is expected from defenders of Brutalist architecture and, possibly, the skateboarders who like to scrape up its concrete benches, but probably few others.

not sure if i'll ever visit the states at this point, but i really would've loved to skate there. it's a bit of a tragedy tragic.

Visiting SF w/family once and no board, we were on the way out of town from piers area and I was just looking out the window and BOOM there are the China Banks for one fleeting moment. I gasp, no one else cares.

Glad I got to see it once.

Brutalist architecture is cool, but who in their right mind would torn down those banks just because of that? They look good as hell. Also, this picture is the first time I realized how gnarly those walls are, yet they have a pretty smooth transition(for something that steep and fast), no wonder is such a famous spot.

It'd be cool if the city would save a piece of the bridge... kind of like what MTL did with Big O.

Or, there has to be some tech kook or musician who has the money to donate to save this shit in exchange for a day with his favorite pro.

Always seems like San Francisco is either depicted as super sick or extremely lame, never in between.

the best place i skated was probably "the island" becuase you can always find people skating there any time of day cause you dont get kicked out and it has good ground, and find some people to meet up with to go to a fun spot from there. idk if thats still around maybe people just go to emb now instead to do that kind of stuff. i always liked SF because it had that "centralized" scene and then so many dope spots to go from there. its like Philly had love park to go to etc.

Like I said, pretty smooth for how steep it is, that thing looks like a wall and it has a little bump going into it, that's pretty good for the scenario, without that it would be straight wallride scenario.

With the news of this spot nearing its end, it looks like a new obstacle has been unlocked

Damn. Glad I got to carve a short bench once. And like everyone else here has said, that shit was so scary/difficult I only really did it just to say I did it. I also slashed the top of the bank but that was honestly less scary. Had a strong feeling something like this would happen before I got a chance to go back. Skate it while y’all can!
