I hope Sour shifts the production to BBS so all the not-euro don't suffer from PTSD after skating overpriced HLC shitty decks made from balsa wood.

I skated two HLC decks this summer (Sour and Cafe) and thought they were perfectly fine. I’m a big bitch about this sort of stuff, too.

I think that for the price they ask, HLC makes shitty boards. We used to buy HLC boards for 35/45 euros max, 70 is not worth.

They make boards of different quality grades and cost.

NO
All boards pressed at HLC are pressed the same way with the same wood (Jart and other brands / shop boards pressed there). They only have one process for all their customers.
Why do you guys talk when you obviously don't know ?

Completes are made in China but it's not the topic we are discussing here

I wrote what I wrote because a friend started a company some years ago and HLC gave him 9 grades to chose from (at least thats what he said). I live in England and I see Cafe boards all the time, none of them feels any close to the Sours that I have been skating. Cafe wood is usually that very "white" wood and boards make a dud sound when I hit the tail on the ground, while the Sours are usually darker and sound very sharp. Cafe boards also feel slightly thicker. I am not rejecting what you said, I am just very curious to know what in fact goes on. Definitely not trying to spread lies.

Edit: And definitely not dissing Cafe, I love Korahn!

thanks for the genuine details.
I got a guy in charge of production there on the phone yesterday. I wanted to check a few things with him because the hearsay around HLC is strong (mainly because of subpar products years ago) and it's not really fair considering the current quality of their products (we had hundreds of boards pressed there and only great feedbacks). This guy is not a marketing guy, we trust each other and he knows i'm picky.

I really don't understand the HLC wood hate either. I can see how their wood may have been sketchy when they first started pressing but at least for the last decade, I have been more than happy with their quality.

I hate them for their 14.2" wheelbase on every single deck no matter what size or concave it is. Can't say anything about the wood as I don't want to skate a board with such short wheelbase.

It feels like Delux and Bakerboys are in an arms race to see who can accumulate the most board brands under their umbrellas.

Yeah. Many do. Wouldn’t hurt to provide some variety to cover a broader customer base though.

Many people don't like HLC, not just because of the boards ( Wich in fact are shitty, heavy, thick, and wood peels off many times  ), but the company, just like a big corporate when dealing with skateshops. I can tell you that Sk8mafia, Flip or Plan  B, are not what they used to be in Europe, since they are distributed and produced by HLC.
Many skaters would not buy a deck knowing it's from HLC. I am working in a Skateshop in Spain, since many years and that's the feeling we have here
In the other hand, much respect for SOUR, probably the greatest brand in Europe. They always been a Skateboarding Brand and not a Trending or Fashion brand. Team is solid, work on videos all the time, graphics are dope. Happy for them.
I wish they will produce with bakerboys at BBS for USA, and that maybe in a future move from HLC to a better one in Europe.
