Trying to keep your board from having razor tail?
« on: May 06, 2022, 09:27:44 PM »
I found a YouTube video that recommends interior wood glue. Glue alone works okay but is prone to chipping.

Combine layers of wood glue with paper (I use a thin brown paper that a beer is slipped in when purchasing from a gas station).

First allow tail to wear down slightly.

Squeeze out a thin strip of interior wood glue across the worn section of tail, spread with finger, add a strip of paper (1/4" wide or so) on top of the wet glue, shape by hand and let dry.

Sand if need be.

Repeat if need be.

Wears down just like wood.

You're welcome ;)

I can recommend not skating your deck. Prevents any razor tail, chips and snapping it.

It's not that serious -
Go fast, catch a frontside
And remember why you love it

Thanks for the input.

A tail guard changes the angle/timing of popping and adds weight.

Wax works well on smooth surfaces. Rougher ground will still eat up the board.

Loss of pop comes from loss of plies. Once worn down the board is popping off one or two plies which is responsible for the spongy wet feeling.

Those who snap boards often would be wasting their time fixing razor tail.

Wood glue slows down wear big time, it helps prevent chipping and can repair any that occur. Using glue alone on the rails (sides) and topside of the tail/nose strengthens those surfaces. Apply anywhere wood is wearing down and next time the deck makes contact with a surface it will be the glue wearing off instead of wood.
