Will always remember the first time watching this at my cousin's house. The original VHS tape was orange. Such a classic video.

Still one of the all time greats! Hope Habitat does the same thing with Mosaic at some point.

potentially controversial take: just rewatched this for the first time in a while and i never noticed how much Dill did NOT deserve last part in this lol almost everyone in the video was skating at a much higher level than him and Kalis, AVE, or Pops for sure would've been much better choices for last part (or Wenning/DGar but they were Habitat dudes and makes sense they wouldn't get the closer)

I agree that everyone else skated at a higher level but dill spot/trick selection in this is aesthetically pleasing and he skates pretty fast and lands everything clean while some of those other guys longer tech lines have tic tacs and toe touches.

Also considering the billing at the time ave and pops were still pretty unknown this might’ve been pops first part. Kalis had the heavy metal part and transwoed but I think this and his dc part are his most defining. Dill was pretty much in his prime here and was popular from 101. Also at that time giving dill last part was antagonistic towards the big rail Jamie Thomas Enders of the era

Spot on. Style over substance, which is what the sect has always been known for. Dill has some of the most memorable moments in skate video history in this video, nobody was following that part up.

y'all make some decent points. it does make sense that it was just "his time" though as far as where he was in his career compared to the other guys on the team. Dill had been a prominent part of skate culture since like '91-'92, so it makes sense as a legacy situation. Pops was def still unknown at this time and AVE and Kalis, although both pretty established at this point with several parts under their belts, had only been around for more like 5 years compared to Dill's 10

all that being said, i've just never found Dill's style to be all that compelling. I get that's subjective though and I know his skating resonates with some people, i just never found it to be all that aesthetically appealing, especially compared to all the other style legends in the Alien/Habitat camp at the time. i think i've also just always been influenced by the fact that i find him to be a massive kook and tryhard too lol i also started skating (or at least consuming skate culture) in like '02-'03, so I think I missed the Dill golden years and just never developed a connection with his skating that other people may have because most of what I saw him in was Photo/Mosaic/Skate More/etc, all of which was pretty underwhelming to me at the time

I had been consuming skate culture for five years when Photo came out and feel the same. Dill has always been a try-hard IMO. Creative, stylish, and skilled, no doubt, gotta give credit where credit is due, but he’s also consistently repped some of the worst/corniest gear and tunes across multiple eras of skating (TWO back to back Spoon tracks? With those socks? Get the fuck outta here), and spent too much time as a coked out ego maniac for me to care about anything related to him, especially post AWS. Only watched Blessed once but he had like, what, a lone nose manual on a sidewalk or something and got his name on the marquee and in the credits as “starring”? Gimme a fuckin break.

Yeeeesss, thank you! I needed this today.

It's funny how they just threw that Danny Way clip in right after Dill's last part... They have this super aesthetic last part, then all of a sudden it's a clip of Danny Way doing some rodeo clip on a Red Bull ramp, then back to aesthetic team hang footage.

Nah, Dill's part is perfect. It wouldn't have worked anywhere else in the video. It holds up the best after all these years.

I do wish they had done a 60i to 60p conversion and then uploaded it as 1080/60p or 4k/60p. If you go watch most old skate videos from VHS on a CRT television, it's shocking how smooth and artifact-free they are. In the YouTube era everyone got used to everything being 30p. This upload, like most old skate video uploads, is the worst of all worlds: choppy motion by going from 60i to 30p, and full of deinterlacing artifacts by displaying two temporally asynchronous scanlines on the screen at the same time.

It was Ragdoll's part in Pig Slaughterhouse. There's even a voice note from him at the start admitting how dumb it is to reuse the song

You’re telling me Alien couldn’t get a deinterlaced version of their own video? Appreciate that they uploaded this in full in a decent resolution but it still looks pretty bad.

Edit: I see that OwlGreen more or less already pointed this out

Can it be fixed? I put the file into Premiere Pro and tried playing about with the field order and stuff but no luck

How is DGar’s nollie flip noseslide Hubba not his last trick over a switch crook on a handrail and a switch bs tail a smallish rail?  Those three just seem out of order

The artifacts are a bit baked-in at this point due to YouTube compression. Did Photo ever come out on DVD? If so, that would be a good source file to make a 60i to 60p conversion. I'm not sure it did. Maybe there was a DVD reissue at some point, though possibly with some musical changes. Just guessing. The best thing would be for someone who knows someone at AWS to ask them to run the 60i source through a bob deinterlace process in the NLE or Handbrake to produce a 60p file, upscale it to 4k, and then upload that to YouTube as a 4k60p video. The reason for the 4k upscale being that the greater the resolution YouTube sees, the higher the bandwidth it offers, and therefore the fewer the compression artifacts in the end result.
Would be sick. Maybe if a few people just email them the suggestion they'll do it. The whole process shouldn't take more than a handful of hours to render and upload depending on their computer and internet connection.

If I remember correctly, the footage of Rodrigo TX doing nollie heelflip noseslide down Hubba came out right before this video was made and due to how similar those tricks are and how much attention Rodrigo's trick got at the time, I'm guessing that influenced their decision not to use the nollie flip noseslide as the last trick.
