THE UPSTARTS an advice thread for small skate companies
« on: July 25, 2022, 07:04:09 AM »
This thread is for those of us who own or are looking to start their own skate company. I figured having a place to go for information/advice about our smaller companies would be helpful for a few of us here. A place where we can ask questions or make suggestions about various topics such as: “What do you think of this graphic?” or “Who makes the best stickers, clothing, hats, etc?”

My question to start things off is: Where can I go to make the card stock inserts for wheels? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Printrunner.com has great prices on postcards and a bunch of printed stuff. A gallery that I have done stuff with turned me onto them and I never looked back

I don’t have any real desire to start a company, but would be willing to if I had to get boards made the specific way I want. Where’s the best/easiest place to get boards made to your specs? What kind of minimum order is involved?

I have a Generator account through my shop and it's 50 deck minimum per graphic. Not sure if they have minimums for buying blanks.
Other woodshops like Point don't really have minimums, just costs more per deck with lower qtys

Most wood shops are 50 minimum, graphic or not, but you can split sizes up in increments of 10. Most also charge a one time set up fee between $50-$75 for custom shapes. If you're just messing with specs(WB or length) of an existing shape some charge, some don't.
Point is a broker and just prints on Clutch(?) wood, so no customs there.
I was in talks with South Central and they seem to have pretty fair pricing and turn around. I personally like their boards and can't find any actual truth to them using prison labor. So I will more than likely be going with them for my next run.

Google printshops in your town and see if there's anything around that'll work for you. Or check PSPrint.com. Quality printing and they seem to run deals constantly.
