To re-rail this thread somewhat: to me the real question is if the part will come out in time to steal SOTY from Suciu.
[close]

Yes that would be interesting.
Very hard to not give to Guy then, the sentimental favourite who is an absolute GOAT anyway.

if guy did the exact tricks suciu did in his part you would go insane calling him the GOAT

It would be cool if Koston rode for a smaller random brand, it's not like he needs the check.  Or he could just go back to Girl and do the whole "welcome home" thing.
[close]
Was it just a joke that Koston does Uber driving? If it’s true that he does, then he probably isn’t as rich as people might think.
[close]

It’s definitely a joke. Dude is absolutely loaded.

Made me think back to his old MTV Cribs appearance, which has been scrubbed from YouTube but lives on on DailyMotion.
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6igg9

Man, holy shit what a crazy spot to have at that age. Assuming he played his cards right he's gotta be sitting on some serious money by this point.
[close]

I didn't watch it all but that doesn't look like his gaff

Can't be ha

Looks like a rental they dressed up for the show
[close]

Why do you say that? I mean, he might have been renting the house (who knows?), but I don’t doubt that he lived there at the time. Koston was probably the biggest pro of that kind during the absolute peak of skateboarding’s big-payday period, and seems to be one of the savvier pro skaters. Why wouldn’t he buy a house with his giant, six-figure checks?
[close]

Cribs was faked a lot, just rental houses to make it seem like they lived in huge mansions. Koston was definitely making good money whenever that was filmed but a house like that built into the mountain in the hills would be insanely expensive also that "skate park" at the end isn't very convincing.
[close]
While the house looks suspiciously empty I think it probably is his. If Koston was smart he probably had an advisor who told him money doesn't last forever and to invest and buy property etc. Wasn't he at some point neighbours with Shaq?
[close]

Don't forget that this episode came out during the height of the Tony Hawk games, which Koston was a character in the majority of. Combine those checks with being one of the biggest names in skateboarding and I'm sure he was more than well off at the time.
[close]
Koston made a shit-ton of money, but he was never paid out massively from the Tony Hawk games since he wasn't in the first one. Skaters in the first game made like 200k due to them getting money off total sales, Activision didn't make that mistake twice. From 2 on, I think the Skaters that weren't Tony Hawk got like a flat 5 to 10k. A nice check for just having your likeness used and maybe doing an hour or two of voiceover work, but Koston was one of the top pros in the industry at the time selling significant decks and shoes, plus whatever sponsors would throw him cash as one of the faces of skating. And, he never seemed crazy reckless with money and never piled out.

Not sure this is true because Reda personally told me he got 50k for his work in one.

Which THPS is Reda in? He may have got paid that for Skate 3, which he likely did a decent amount of stuff for.

while we are on the video game topic - do yall think skate companies paid ea/activision to include their gear in the games or was it the opposite?

ea skate paid 10k per skater featured in it. tony hawk was 100k from 2 onwards.

reda probably got 50k from the ea skate franchise because of all the voice acting he contributed.

i thought mike v offered to be in THPS for free and ruined it for everyone else?
I think the belief was it was Mullen, as it was someone added in at 2. I'm trying to remember which Nine Club this was talked about in. I think Reynolds, but not sure.

Is this spawned from one of those copypasta thingos? I think I'd heard it was cab.

As far as ea/Activision paying companies to use their product I recon from probably not to some minimum amount. I can't remember where I heard it now (possibly those southern video commentary guys) but tech deck doesn't pay the companies to use their logos and graphics. I think it's just seen as a mutual benefit, the games look more legit and the companies get a bit of advertising

Yeah, I'm sure THPS def helped whatever brands/pros were featured in it. I remember buying a Zero logo deck to start because I liked Jamie Thomas from that game. I remember being in middle school at the time, and brands like AWS and Real having to be explained to people by older heads because they didn't have riders in 1 and 2.

I randomly dust that game off just to get the Forties, Independent, AWS (or Anti Hero) and DC combo. (DC was awesome then)

Game was siiiiiiick

lowkey brands getting videogame exposure back then was cool. funny you could get on supreme in the thrasher game, but that was like 15 years before supreme started selling actual bricks and foamposites. i actually wonder who at supreme made that happen.

also always suprises me to see what rando graffiti makes it into videogames, skating or not. seeing cope2/anyone from the marc ecko graff game or any of the MSK dudes like Revok makes sense. and im sure they got compensated. but when i start seeing rando tags from dudes i know personally im not sure wtf is going on. maybe they think bc most writers pretend to hide their identities that its all free to use who knows.

me & Guy were born on the same day, same year. I've mentioned this before... but I used him as the marker of where I "should be" as far as skating goes. Horrible person to try and compare yourself to. I was way behind by Video Days.

But you could easily put out more footage than him.
