Does no one here recognize the correlation behind Pontus being a “stubborn, control freak, asshole” and Polar being arguably the best skateboard company? With amazing videos, graphics, trips, team, art, quality of boards, clothing, etc. all directed by Pontus himself? Call the guy a dick or stubborn but in the end he has great ideas and his methods are successful. The team gets hooked up and paid to skate while Pontus makes all the videos. Let the man who has devoted the last ~7 years of his life to running his brand do his thing.

The greatest artists are often the biggest assholes. It's always been that way. I'm just trying to enjoy the art, not go to dinner and a movie with any of these fucks. Unfortunately, we live in an age where it's cool to get outraged and offended by literally everything.

Well, for me as a personally thing I cant enjoy anything Polar does. I used to ride for the largest skate shop in Sweden, as one of the OG members. I started to get to know Pontus when he got a girlfriend in a town nearby mine, and skated some with him in my town (around when he filmed for Mad Circle i think) - dudes a wierdo, but I never acted on him, never said a a bad word or anything, always treated the dude friendly.

So he got a proposition to ride for the same skate shop I did. Pontus demands? Kick me off. And a large sum of money to fund The Strongest of the strange, if my memory serves me right. Got kicked (the owner was a well known kook, so no suprise for me really) - that was a bit short lived cause him and Pontus beefed out fairly quick.

Still to this day Im still nice to the dude if I see him, I even rented out an old apartment I had left in my possession after moving in with a girl to the Polar crew when they came by my town a few years ago. Do I have respect for him? No.

David is sick though. I meet him in Stockholm when he was just a small kid, super cocky little dude at the time. Pretty cool to se him became so good.

The '80s were the worst period. You had these horrible pop bands growing their hair and calling themselves metal.

i think people are aware, it usually comes up when pontus is discussed

Pontus is well known for being a dick, nonetheless he's capable of delivering great products and films.
the thing he does best which is making some of the best skate videos ever.

is it easier to dislike him but like polar, compared to every other pro skater/company owner?

I think this is a fine line.

The discussion is not really about the quality of his work or output (which are both great)  but more about if the current structure is the best one for the company, the riders & Pontus.

I think he works for stussy in some capacity now, he still skates polar boards in all his clips I imagine he makes more money doing whatever he does for stussy now than he would skating and probably just skates and films for fun while getting flowed polar boards and LR's

I'm pretty sure polar has even reposted some of David's ig clips too it seems like they are still friendly and the decision to be off the payroll was pretty mutual.

he had a short interview in solo where he said he was basically just over skating for a bit, and quit.

From his Instagram it looks like he’s skating better than ever though

Yeah i always heard it was for the modeling thing. I was also under the impression that he was back on polar because of I remember correctly, they said “welcome back” or “welcome home” sometime last year and then last resort thing came about also. Just confused me when he had no clips in SLYGACI

in like 10 years when all the polar riders leave and do interviews about their time riding for polar, we're going to find out that pontus is the euro version of jamie thomas

if he's back on polar, im not entirely sure to what capacity bc he's still not listed on their team roster. given everything we know about pontus, if david was back on the team, i think his name would be listed on their site bc i remember it being listed a long time ago when we blew it at some point came out

see at the bottom of the page for the roster
https://usa.polarskateco.com/g

regardless, like some mentioned above, he's been posting footy on the gram, i hope he's doing well. i enjoyed his part in WBIASP

He's been back on for over a year -

I can see why people are confused. No tricks in polar's new video but Kyle Wilson randomly has a guest trick in the first montage.

I’m sure Oski could easily leave to start his own board company with shark logos
