Solvents Thread - questions and answers

Figured a centralized topic for this would be in order

My questions, what varnish/protective coating gets sprayed onto boards? Has anyone experimented with using something else (dipped or coated Flex Seal for a rain board)?

Can’t say what kind of clear they’re spraying boards with now, but as for sealing a rain board it could work(make sure you get the bolt holes as well or your just trapping water in). This would kinda be useless if you’re planning on riding it and doing tricks. As soon as the nose or tail get popped, it’ll take off whatever you used and just trap water in also. You’re better just using an old deck.

Sand the board to remove any previous coating. Wipe with water to remove dust. Spray with an oil based polyurethane. Allow 24 hours to cure before usage.

Make sure you spray in a dust free environment. The dirtier the surface the more pinholes there will be to let water in to the wood.

Thanks both of y’all. I am making non-trick riding all weather cruiser.

I feel like I need to brush the Flex Seal over the hardware on the bottom and baseplate in the area before pivot and below the bushings to make it watertight and keep some parts from rusting.

On the subject of (organic) solvents, I recommend acetone and steel wool for the removal of wheel graphics, makes your set up look dope.
