Skateboard Related Literature
« on: April 18, 2023, 09:50:06 AM »
Does anyone have any recommendations for skateboard related literature? I remember reading an Andy Mac biography WAY back in the day, but was wondering if anything really stood out to anyone else.

My brother's ex-wife bought me this book one year for christmas:

There's a part in it where one skater gets on his knees, pulls the other guy's pants down and sniffs his dick and describes that it smells like cheese. Reading an excerpt made for an entertaining christmas morning with the family.

10/10, would recommend.

but did it capture the culture?

reminds me of andrew brown aka 'rocktakon"'s "erotic skate novel" from a decade ago, which i didn't read: https://www.amazon.com/None-Bad-Ones-Andrew-Brown/dp/0996723803

The Trouble with Skateboarding was my shit in middle school. A mutual friends father wrote it apparently and it surprises me it gets good reviews online. (Not that i remember it being bad just a young adult book about skating)

can't recall how I came across this but it's a really good look at the history of skateboarding in the larger discussion of how sports changed in the 21st century - basically the history of the creation of "lifestyle sports"

https://digitalscholarship.unlv.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3620&context=rtds

also "the most fun thing" by kyle beachy is good if you're into really literary type shit - I had to roll my eyes sometimes at the pretentious shit that's hard to get through but worth it in the end

I'm impressed at the author's restraint in not using "BOIS" in the title.
