You can never go back

Quote
15 years ago today, the Girl and Anti Hero guys team up for an unprecedented good time. Traveling up to the Bay Area and through Oregon, into Washington, over to Orcas Island. Skatepark and camping conditions couldn't be topped. Magic ensued.

  • SLAP OG SLAP OG : Been around since SLAP was a mag.
The amount of times I watched the Beauty edit. I had it on my IPod Classic on repeat. It made me as a teenager want to make wizard staffs and go on skate trips with the homies.

This is my favorite era of skateboarding ever. Both of these teams were at the best they had ever been and will ever be and there was hope for the future, shown through Carrol trying to teach Russo how to read and write. Everything seemed sincere, lacking the all too self-aware irony of our current era of skateboarding.

The best of times. I was at the Dept of Skateboarding demo. Also spent most of my free time camping and skating up and down the Oregon coast so it really resonated.

For good measure, here's the great Epicly Later'd series on this trip. Russo confusing Gonz for Guy, BA puking blood, TNT and T-Mo drunk fighting using the n-word, and classic P-Stone party footage.

Anybody know what happened to Peabody?

Not quoting because the above post is so long... BUT...
Peabody works with concrete he builds skateparks and other contracted concrete structures.
looks like he still skates from time to time.

The bump over flat sessions towards the end has to be one of the greatest sessions in skateboard history. That session blessed us with one one the most beautifully executed BA SW Tres.

Peabody was one of my faves at the time of this and had one of the best styles ever imo. As @MOE SYZLAK said he's a full time concrete guy now but judging from what he posts on his instagram stories I don't think much of it is skateparks. Looks like he might specialize in shotcrete. He was working for grindline for a while but not anymore I don't think. And I don't think he skates anymore. There was an episode of Talkin' Schmidt with either Albino or Sean Guiterrez (can't remember which one) where they said he doesn't skate anymore and complains about being sore all the time from work.

His instagram is https://www.instagram.com/body_san/ but it's not much skating these days.

Love these edits, best crew, great skating. The time trial contest is an all time classic.

Got the first and the second BatB DVD's with zines. I'm not sure if the third one was just online thing, I don't think there was a dvd version?

Ok

mixed feelings about beauty and the beast in retrospect. on one hand this was a really cool and unexpected pairing and a great respite from all the too-serious shit going on in skateboarding at that moment. on the other hand, it paved the way for guys like raven and elijah berle to get on crailtap

You are definitely on the popular side of this opinion, that those dudes weren’t it, and were not for crail, buuuuuuuut, I disagree. Elijah is a complicated one, for sure not my guy, but undeniably talented.
Raven is the shit.
I’m garbage at skating, and worse at large transitions, so my opinion is not based off of my ability, but to my eye, Raven has always looked the best on that stuff. Yes, more so than GT.

The above era of crail was already super team stuff, with folks from all over, they had already evolved from their beginnings.
The problem wasn’t the skaters, it was the crail created media. Shit got a little more lazy, and formulaic. A lot more. Or it just seemed ham-handed, crass, commercial. And also we were all older, and jaded.

I’ve got quite a few more wack takes: the Jack Black/Will Arnett stuff wasn’t terrible, and MJ trying to get JUICED was funny.
Pretty Sweet as whole wasn’t rad, but it was better than a lot of folks whinged about.
I’m blaming all of the wack shit on Ty. And I liked the rhythm video.

BA ending up on Antihero is the best outcome from this whole thing.

And I doubt its in any way related to this trip so much as him just existing and being so connected to the industry, but Raven’s time on Crail was sick.  Liked Berle too.

Beauty and the beast was alright but i never liked the crail stuff. Hesh V Fresh… meh. Preferred tent city on repeat all day.

Too bad TNT ended up being a turd. Dude was/is such a ripper.

BA going AH was the move

Liked how the Crail edit took a modern swing at it

PStone captured a little bit more of McCrank’s Miller flip in the Antihero cut.

Dig all the various edits, including the Epicly Latered’s.  Definitely a golden era.
