What is it about anti-hero that gets old men so aroused?

As a Blue Collar Lifer (apparently that’s a thing.) I guess I’m supposed to like Anti Hero.  I spent too much time pretending to be Ray Barbee to be even remotely hesh. Plus I have glasses…
I don’t really hate any brand necessarily (other than Heroin for the awful name). But thinking about this topic particularly, I dunno, to me it really seems like the official board of 40 second bowl runs with the right turn signal on is Black Label. Specifically the Lucero cross. I see that one around a bit for sure.

Just like other brands you're always going to have people who identify with it a little too much and turn it into their whole life aesthetic, but you simply cannot deny the heaviness of anti hero in terms of their team and the skating. It speaks for itself and it's fucking raw and powerful. Probably one of the most respected crews on an international level. Seeing GT skate in person would be surreal.

I think it’s just an example of the effect of a strong brand.   The direction and imagery have been very consistent.   A brand like, Real seems all over the place to me.

I'm weird with Anti-Hero.

I think Todd Francis' art is beastmode (thanks to the Vans Shop riot, his roach artwork is all over a local indoor park), I like Brian Anderson, I like John Cardiel, but something about the brand I just don't fuck with.

Idk that fucking eagle graphic annoys me whenever I see it, it gives me american exceptionalism vibes. Like on the same deck I'm also gonna see the don't tread on me snake or a punisher logo with a blue lives matter flag or an entire ass advert for fuckin black rifle coffee and other lame shit.

I also think the eagle logo gives the name Anti-Hero sort of a self serious edge. And I know it's not menna be self serious, that's Hockey/FA's shtick.

Maybe it's a mix of the kind of weird biker/libertarian/other wack shit that gets the oldies torqued. Or maybe the oldies want a DLX board but they're scared of majorly colourful graphics like Krooked.

That being said, Anti-Hero did give us Grimple Stix so there's an upside to every sin or some shit.

i was really interested in the 14" wb decks they put out before they started making tru-fit (the 8.25 misregistered eagle and the 8.5), but once i got the 8.25 eagle i could never get comfortable on it because i felt like such a loser with the graphic lol

although the 8.5 that was a spoof of the maxell guy in chair was one of the best shapes i've ever skated

You had a friend's older brother who was a dick but sometimes hooked you up who was into antihero at some point. He may be a line cook/hash dealer but he has the best chicks and the hardest grinds.

You moved away to go to sucio for awhile and you come back home and the guy is still shredding. Still smashing inexplicably hot chicks, but the years have taken a toll.

You think wow I'm glad I didn't go down that path as you spend 45 min warming up to skate the small ledge. You cool off with a nice dales pale ale and shoot the shit as you see him load up his Jeep to go on a mushroom based shark fishing trip. You don't know how he can afford this life and he doesn't either. But you have to go to work in the morning to earn 5x what he makes but are you really winning? Or are you avoiding CTE, Chirrosis, and an eventual heart attack at a Mexican surf town?

They were in the Uk recently and I can testify that seeing both GT & Tony Trujillo shred an old concrete park was incredible. And they were nice people too - happy to sign boards & do pics with the fans. Heavy crew indeed.
