Trouble with leaning back
« on: June 17, 2024, 10:58:33 AM »
This is a very general topic because it relates to a lot of tricks.

Basically, I’m a chronic front truck guy. FS nosegrind was my first ledge trick after 5050s and now years later I still struggle with 5-0s. It’s gotten to a point where now I’m learning switch front 5-0s and while it’s harder to get on the ledge the grind itself feels more comfortable than a regular front 5. I’ve also done fs noseblunts but can’t tailslide.

It’s very frustrating and I’ve avoided addressing this bad habit because it feels so ingrained and fundamental. But there’s so many tricks I feel like I’m missing out on and it really fucks with my ability to skate transition. Not to mention it makes me look very stiff and awkward.

From workshopping 5-0s I know there’s a “leaning back” + bending front knee relationship that’s fucked for me. When I do get into 5-0s I often slip-out in a way that feels unecessarily sketchy.

Does anyone have tips on how to go about fixing this? Maybe there’s a certain way you position your body or some other sort of body mechanic that helps you sit comfortably in the back seat?

Thanks in advance!

you got manny's on a curb or something ledge height? that could help the process

I can do mannies on decently high things but I don’t have them on lock if that makes sense. I have to get into a good one. And I slip out of them a lot. People say 5-0s are just mannies while grinding but they’ve never felt that way to me.
