protect wheel graphics with clear coat?
« on: October 28, 2024, 12:49:08 AM »
If I really like the graphics of some set of wheels and want to still ride it, flip it etc, is it possible to protect the graphics by spraying layers of clear coats on them? has anyone tried this yet and how well does it protect the graphics?

I can't imagine clear coat would hold up long against any pebbles/debris you might hit or when the board lands sideways. I find that the wheel graphic that faces inside usually lasts a lot longer than the side that faces out, so maybe turn your favorite side in?

I once tried clear nail polish, didn't hold up for much a longer than a session or two. I vaguely remember @TwisT tried something like this a while ago too. Maybe he had better luck.

I’ve done it,

I post pictures in the wheels thread about a year ago. It’s helps prolongs them, but they still wear away. I think if you do it on a conical wheel, you may have slightly longer results.

Or get OG classics, graphic on that shape lasts forever.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Spitfire OG Classics are kind of like cut away in such a way it seems like it would protect the graphic quite well
ninja edit ^ lol looks like someone beat me to it  ;D

I have actually found the opposite lol but maybe that is because of the way i skate, i do a lot of grinds and the inside wheel probably rubs against the ledge a lot

Buy two sets. One to look at, one to skate.

Shit is getting out of hand when your trying to protect wheel graphics, there is already an epidemic of people buying rails to protect board graphics, instead of their intended purpose, can I genuinely ask what wheel graphic you are trying to protect???

This is quite literally the solution (and Bones V5s but to a lesser extent).

Clear coat only belongs on the ledge and only to get it grinding initially.

If also you wax your board, why not clear coat your board?

Maybe clear nail polish would help make them last a lil longer, that way you could put a good layer on there to protect the graphic, I’ve had wheel graphics that were cool too that I wish lasted longer as well specially a spanky ghetto child wheel I had when I was younger

Take a photo on your phone before you use the wheels. Then pull it up at night as you gently lay your head on your pillow.

I hate wheel graphics, if I end up with a set that have too much I’ll just give a few twists against some spare grip tape and get rid.

Graphics on OJs come off super easy. But you’d be riding OJs 🤷🏻‍♂️
