I suggest you start rollerblading. It's easier because all you have to do is jump.
One of my favorite lines is the one of spiked meth drnewton does off of lou pearlmans viarga and toddler-blood induced erection that finally puts that bitch 6 feet deep.

My little cousin did an ollie within five minutes.

Don't take advice from this fagg. Rollerblades are the way to go.

First you need to realize that skateboarding should be about having fun, rather then landing/missing tricks. Just cruise around and try to have fun. Why would you go to a skatepark if you cannot ollie (unless you ride transition)? If you only want to do tricks and you become frustrated from not landing tricks to the point that you do not enjoy skating, then do not skate.

First you gotta know how to pop the hell out of the board. Just practice slamming your back foot down as hard as you can and then jumping. After you get the hang of that, youo have to realize that an ollie is almost completely in your front foot. Just tilt your foot so the side is flat on the grip tape and drag up while jumping as high as you can. The hardest part when you start to ollie higher is keeping centered with the board and leveling out. I know it's not what you want to hear but it really just takes a lot of practice to get them.

And your point?

Grass/ carpet > cement - stationary > cement - rolling > cement - rolling fast

Be prepared for endless repetition and being on your own a lot.

I'm not a big Sheckler fan, but apparently the way he learned kickflips was by trying them again and again and again in his garage until he landed one. For most, that is really the only way. Skating with friends is great, but I find the most satisfaction and progression when I'm on my own.

jump off your back foot and then basically do a karate kick in the air

push your front foot foward and pick your back foot straight up.

you can practice the jumping part by just trying to get little mobbed, side walk crack type ollies first. once can control them then jump harder and do a karate kick. it helps to try and ollie onto\over small shit at first, like ollie over your wallet or something rediculously small.

just jump. and for christ's sake, suck that back foot up as high as your body will let you. it took me a year to learn how to ollie, but now it's second nature. i hate to sound like everyone else, but practice, practice, practice.
