if by paid his dues you mean put out 3 parts over 8 years and had a couple photos here and there. from what ive seen the guy rips but cmon, pro? they need to raise the standards on this shit, lets keep it down to people who have put in REAL time working to become a pro like daewon and koston and those guys. when you are hooked up its a job like any other job but it happens to be something you love, meaning you should be able to do more than a clip here and there. people like daewon put out 5 parts in a year and 4 interviews and shit like that. nowadays all you need to do is have one or two ok things and you get a board with your name on it. fucked.

Vicious Cycle, Let's Do This and the Listen vid.  3 parts in 3 years.  And I'd guess that he's put out parts for a shop video or crew DVD or something.
Comparing any rookie pro to Daewon or Koston, both of whom have been sponsored and filmng since 91 or whatever is a stab iin the dark, not forgetting that the 2 of them are in the premiership top tier of pros, hall of fame type of shit.  You don't just get that level overnight.

so why the fuck turn someone before they make it to that "level". they need to stop handing out "pro" keychains like fucking cheese samples in a grocery store. think about how many pros come out then just dissapear into nothing. its because they arent pro, just really good. brian brown can suck my dick and allow my sperm to generate some larger arms.

He's boring. Listen should get TimTim, or someone else interesting. Im really stoked on Danny Montoya and Rob G but they cant keep that company alone like that.

So all pros have to do a test that that says they're as good as Koston or Daewon then?  Skating isn't based on ability, it's based on marketing, simple as, and you're hinting toward that with "just really good".   There'll always be questionable pros, like Lenny Rivas, or Terry Kennedy, but for Brown, it's up to him to get his name out there, be seen and be "marketable" to sell Listen boards.   Unless he gets better work in a different industry altogether, I don't think Brown will be one of those dudes that just disappears into nothing.

Brian has one of the illest styles in person, whoever said he is boring where the fuck do you gather that from? I haven't seen his tws part yet, but from what I hear it's pretty much all lines and urban rawness. seriously I can't believe there can be hate towards brian, especially on the slap boards

Transworld part was amazing. Got me so stoked to skate.... I really nice suprise. He's out grown his over-hunch kiddy style of old, and all the shit he puts out now is golden. I can't wait to get my hands on the Listen video. I never really got the whole Listen thing, but recently each of those dudes have been killing it, so I'm hyped on the company, and I'm glad they turned him pro. It's about time, he deserves it for sure. Especailly with 2 video parts out within a month of each other, and from what I've seen and heard, neither disappoints.

i completely agree, montoya was always really good, but until recently i could never get into his style, which makes me think that him changing up his gear a bit has made him more watchable, and that thought kinda makes me a little queazy and disssapointed in myself.

or maybe his style just got better and i'm not as gay as i hope..... think.

haha, you're freakin funny, lol!
i wasn't really feeling montoya's style in his 'fore and friends' part but since then hes gotten more stylish?
like you, i don't really know how to explain it but i know i'm not gay.   :D

You should listen to the Irishman, he knows what he's talking about.

Skateboarding is a whole mix-mash of things but one of them is unfortunately for the purists marketability.
Imagine starting a little independent company and striving to promote this company in all the right ways. You've got your friends representing and doing their job despite the tight competition. One of your friends is working very hard and manages to reach some major coverage mediums.

What do you do?

Tell him to calm down because you want to keep the company under the radar and profits minimal? The result might be that your friend looks slightly shocked and leaves.

Or, you congratulate your friend and offer him a PROmotion of sorts? Your friend appreciates your support and tries his hardest to support you back by skating more, getting more coverage and eventually spreading light onto the driving force behind his skating- your company.

I agree that javier should be pro, but shouldn't pete eldridge be also? brian is no random, he's been a staple on the east coast scene for the majority of this decade.

i always love the, 'theres other people who are better' arguement for why someone who has nothing to do with those or the company their on, shouldn't be pro.  it really makes a lot of sense.

Brian has earned it. if adrian lopez can have a board i see no problem with someone who actually makes an effort to learn new tricks getting one.
