Why is this Habitat-shoes-thing such a big deal to everybody, I just don't get it. Why this makes Habitat suck in everyone's eyes, is beyond me. To me. it's just another shoe company and it sure could be a hell of a lot worse than Habitat.
Sure, that shoe is a fucking blatant rip off of the chukka low but it's not the first and I'm sure it won't be the last. The desinger guy, Aaron Hoover, that Gillette talked about in his interview, wasn't he a Lakai designer?
Habitat sucks now, IMO because, they got greedy. Deck companies should make decks, not shoes. This is some World/Element bullshit. We all know this stuff ends up fucking people over in the end. Habitat and Alien were 2 very well respected companies who for awhile, were "doing it right". Boards made in the USA, keeping it true by staying in Ohio, had good art direction and they've put out amazing videos over the years. But now the tides changing and we can all thank Jake Burton for that one. Besides, whats the point of another shoe company if all they have is a bunch of ripped off shoes? I guess the dudes can't settle for a piece of the pie, because they want the whole bakery.
how do you explain zero/fallen, crail/lakai, tumyeto/dekline then? to me its the same shit, habitat just isnt beating around the bush and trying to trick you into thinking its some new shit that might eventually fail anyway. its an established brand with a huge following and i think it'll probably stick around. habitat knows what its doing when it comes to design and theyve proved that year after year. they shouldnt have any trouble bringing it over to doing it with shoes. sure the logo looks kind of odd on there right now, but im down to support a company who has always had sick boards/videos/riders/design/clothes, etc. and have always made a good product. AWS included.
and why should board companies only make boards? why should there be rules of what a company should or shouldnt do? were car nerds in an uproar once mitsubishi started making televisions?
also, i dont get why people still support a company (vans) who is owned by the same company who owns eastpak, the north face and countless other kooky shit, but then complain when habitat/alien is under the same umbrella as a well respected dude in snowboarding. its beyond me.
ps. im not targeting you, im just ranting about this as a whole.
