Kids these days bum me the fuck out. I've avoided them for a while, and I'm only 22. Yesterday I got a full dose of kids in my face at a bank to curb spot I skate almost everyday.

Literally, 800 questions. Why was I skating in eras, how do you pronounce chimas name, why do I think alex olson is pro, WHY DID GINO SWITCH TO EXPEDITION (seriously?) WHY IS BAM ON VANS AND DESIGNING A BETTER HALF CAB (seriously?) and what did I think of "nugget" on the berrics.

Kids don't know about skateboarding, they just know about professional skateboarders. Fucking brainwashed, mall store having, spoiled kids. 6 skateparks when I remember at their age having a shitty warped quarterpipe. Kids take shit for granted. Stop caring about who "lil will" beat in s.k.a.t.e. and try to figure out how you can stop pushing mongo to go faster.

but out of all the teenagers that skate now like 95% will quit before they finish high school.   those kids were never real skaters they are just filler.  so it doesnt matter if they dont know about gonz or anything.    most of the other 5% will never quit skating

School me then.  What is skating like these days as a younger dude?  I am not being an asshole either, I really mean it, what are the shitty parts about being a skater these days?

Oh and you want to know who is raw these days?  After seeing Hesh Law, I'd say motherfucking CREATURE.  The AH dudes will always be raw in my book also, but that is because they live skateboarding to me.

if you're out skating street and not at a park, its mostly the same shit you were complaining about, getting kicked out, cops writing you tickets,  people looking for reasons to get in a fight with you, drunk assholes, if anything its probably worse with all the exposure skating has, theyll tell you to go skate "that new park" they built and do a kickflip for them.

 a good example is learning rails,its not possible to do that at a park, to cross that gap to get decent, not even good, means you have to go out and LOOK for the different kinds of rails, round, flat, kinked, steep, mellow, curved, attached, its not all at a skatepark like it is for ledge skating, even the new maloof park doesnt have them all so you have to put yourself out there if you want to learn it. so basically, you're searching for a spot to learn to skate a kind of rail and have to deal with all that bullshit before you're even comfortable, so you'll spend hours looking around for shit and not even learn a trick. the only saving grace is the people skating with you, and it turns into its own thing and its sick.

kids don't know about the gonz these days.  it's fucking ridiculous.  at the shop, there was the new adidas video on, and kids were saying how they don't understand why he's such a big deal, he sucks.  not even little kids, dudes were high-school age.  it sort of shocked me.

Every dude that he mentioned was instantly recognizable.  From the way he dressed, to the way he ollied, to the way he rode down the street.  They see things differently from most skaters, and that doesn't mean it's necessarily the most unskateable thing ever.  It could just be Gonz doing a Casper on some weird sculpture, Holmes flying a Christ Air out in some pink shorts with no shirt on the skinniest vert ramp ever, Cards' weird arm style while he goes flying off/down anything....  It's kinda hard to explain.

i haven't been in this thread for a while, so i haven't responded to the kid.  but you already did it perfectly for me.  great examples.  thanks.

And look up once in a while. Don't roll around trying kickflips with your head down looking at your feet. Because you keep running into people, including me. Wait... are you actually trying to kickflip into me? Why would you do that? Are you trying to show me that you can do kickflips? Stop. Now. I learned them in 1987. I'm not impressed.

And don't worry about where I got my shoes/board/pants. They won't help you skate better.

kids should just skate how it feels right for them enjoy it and forget all the bullshit yea maybe they should know a bit of history but in 86 i didnt care or know about dogtown and zboys but it didnt matter cause i just skated cause it felt great and i loved it and i still skate today and i still suck but i dont care cause skating rules over all else and if the kids are for real then they will still be skating to till there old like me to.
