starting over/switching stance
« on: August 22, 2010, 05:38:29 AM »
Anyone done it before and how did it go?

Destroyed my right ankle a while ago and while it mostly healed it's still super weak and stiff which makes any ollie-oriented trick a pain in the ass.

Went skating today and consciously tried to skate goofy/switch the entire time.  Pop was still pathetic but it didn't hurt as much.

Seems to me like you just need to chill for a while and wait till your ankle is healed properly. Starting over switch just seems like to much of a burden

try not to think of all the years it took you to get to the point where you are as a skateboarder and try to be more aware of the fact that it'll be easier to progress now then when you first started.

or you can just kill and eat rodney mullen to take his powers.

It's been years of "chillin' and waiting for my ankle to heal properly" even with all the stretching and strengthening just to be able to get back to a mob flip or varial flip once in a blue moon, so switching just seemed like the most logical option.

I figured at least starting over would make everything seem new as compared to the frustration of not being able to do the tricks I used to be able to.

tell your doctor you're a dancer and that you need specific physio to get back to a performance standard. literally got put into intensive physio within 2 weeks of telling this and finally my fucked ankles starting to actually get better. know what you're saying about the mob flips though, oddly i find 360 flips and shit less painful/weak

Learning switch is just like learning to skate again except that you can aplly what you learned regular to switch tricks to progress faster..Some tricks just feel better switch though.Like I cant do harflips regular but do em switch. After I learnt most tricks regular I got bored and just rolled switch. Also pushing switch helps you get more comfortable and learning ollies.Funny enough though my foot placement on both stances are totally different so just play around with that.

Thanks, In Lieu & alex the large!

Will probably not make up a story about being a dancer, but now that I got medical again, I might as well use it to get back into some intensive phisio.

Not to say the injury is anywhere near as bad as Cardiel's but, it seems we both got similar problems with our ankles not being able to bend too good anymore.  Goes without saying that he's an inspiration for my trying to recover (even though I get lazy sometimes).  Not ready to become a fixie guy yet so I better keep going.

rehab you ankle, once you are done, start skating again but ease up into it, I broke my right foot and my ankle was stiff as hell and I'm goofy footed, you need to rehab it so that you don't get afraid of flicking a broken foot/ankel.

it's a pain I've been there, some days I feel I won't get back to where I was while others I just don't give a shit and land all my tricks.
