STORY:




 Australian Olympic swimmer Kenrick Monk, pictured, said he told police he was the victim of a hit-and-run car accident because he was too embarrassed to admit that he broke his elbow while skateboarding in September.

"I can't remember too much after I was hit, but I know I wasn't doing anything wrong," Kenrick said at the time. "I've made a statement to the police, and hopefully this is a strong reminder for drivers to keep an eye out for cyclists on the road. I was really lucky."

A few days later, after police told Kenrick they had a witness, he fessed up: "I panicked. I freaked. I felt like I'd let everyone down to know that I'd fallen off a skateboard. It's something 10-year-olds can ride. The car (story) sounded a bit more elaborate. It kept snowballing ... It was the stupidest thing I've done. I regret it and I apologise big time."

Late last month, police said they wouldn't charge the 23-year-old freestyler.

snapped my humerous at the start of summer skateboarding

told work I fell off my bike as while I wasn't embarrassed about the fact I skateboard I just couldn't be arsed with having to tell about 100 people the story, and having to then go through all the 'oh you still skateboard', & 'you fell off a skateboard?' questions that would follow from just about everyone.

Having used the I fell off a bike argument I think about 3 people in total wanted more information

The first time I broke my wrist I lied and said, I was riding my bike.  I felt stupid for lying.  Now I don't.  There's been only a couple of times where people have given me the "aren't you too old..." treatment. But they're usually old-timers that think that they were over the hill at 40.  I feel sad for them.

its more that skating is viewed as dangerous by a lot of people so he shouldnt be risking it while hes getting ready for the olympics, biking is viewed more for transportation and you could claim it wasnt as much your fault

A friend of mine already broke his hand twice because he drunkenly punched against a wall due to women-issues (pathetic, yet funny for a 30-year-old). Anyways, not being able to work for 6 weeks each time, he told his boss that it was because of skateboarding. Boss accepted it but threatened to kick him out if it happened again and that he is too old for skating.
I have no idea what the point of this story is but I thought it somehow fitted in the context.

i swam and played water polo growing up, and in high school .   my senior year i was actually out for the season because of a broken wrist from skateboarding.  not sure if i relate to this guy in the same way, because i wasn't ashamed of it..   but it did suck, and i did get shit for it. 

i'd be curious if this guy was skating skating, or longboarding.  if this guy is an olympic swimmer but couldn't resist the urge to skate - which is probably not a good idea if you're training for some olympic shit - i have respect.  if he was long boarding that's another story.  lying about it is gay, but i understand how he would get serious flack from his coaches
