can i clean old bearings with 151 rum and/or dish soap?
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:54:37 PM »
so i lost my board last week, dying to skate, so i broke out the old parts box and found round(ish) wheels that are relatively the same size and a about a dozen bearings but some obviously work better than others.

anyway, i don't have acetone or 100% alcohol, but i gotta get back on the board so i need to clean them somehow.

i do have bearing lube tho, thank god.

really any hardware store will have acetone, and it WAY cheaper then rum.. soap will only mess that shit up.

Here's a good video on cleaning bearings (as much as the guy hosting it is corny as shit).

lol, dish soap. that shit woulda fucked you up REAL quick. i heard WD-40 isnt really good for your bearings in the long term, but ive tried it once and it sorta helped. Not to be captain obvious but id just say fuck the bullshit and buy some reds for the $15. you prolly gon spend like 8 bucks on cleaning supplies anyway you might as well just cop some brand new bearings instead

came up big time on some old wheels and bearings that were half decent thank christ. money is real tight right now so buying even 15$ bearings is outta the question for a bit. hard times maannnnnnn

i rather would have lost my cell phone than my board. miserable. i was very fond of those trucks

I use extremely hot water and dish soap.  I put my swiss bearings in a plastic tupperware and slosh them around really good.  Rinse, and add a little more soap, then repeat.  Then I dry them off really well and add speed lube.  No problems here, and I've been doing this for many a moon.

drink the rum and go skating afterwards. you won't notice if your bearings stuck.

a bottle of alchohol cost like 2 dollars.
