Just kidding, but some hippies are mad at adidas. Saw a flyer in Target stuffed in a windbreaker I was going to buy, it sent me to badidas.com.

Probably not. I was wondering though, if the quality has gone down due to pissed off employees or this one factory being shut. Probably not, seeing as they hace 1,200 plus factories. Thoughts?

Who usually start these protests against sweatshop labor?  The workers themselves?
I feel like the workers themselves, although they would like better conditions, would rather have a job than complain.
It's a really complicated issue.

Wait, if little kids are manufacturing these things now in China or wherever, shouldn't the quality go up?

To be fair child labour isn't something to be cool about, though as far as I know, near every major shoe brand uses child labour which is unfortunate.

sorry  :'(

I'm not trying to say that I condone sweatshop labor or child labor.  I'm pretty against it.
But what happens when you end up getting these companies to adopt better working conditions and higher wages?
Obviously those who work there after the change have it better off, but I assume some people will end up jobless.
It's true though, I don't know much about this issue, which is essentially why I don't immediately assume it's as simple as "stop sweatshop labor and everything will be fine for everyone."

The funniest thing about the slave/child labour shoe debate is that everyone seem to think it's only Nike and Adidas doing it. Smaller companys are most likely under way less scrutiny and probably get away with way worse shit all the time.
Not saying that everyone should only buy big brands. If you want guaranteed dolphin-free shoes you probably have to start sewing yourself.

^^
Exactly!!  Chances are when you support smaller brands you're way more likely to end up with child labour products.  Smaller companies don't make enough product to warrant their own factories or have enough economic sway to change labour practices in foreign countries, so they have to contract their production to pre-existing factories.  Bigger companies can at least be held accountable.

Yes Child Labour is terrible.  But it IS a way more complicated issue than just ending it.  A lot of those kids who are working won't be eating at all if you end their jobs.  The world is pretty fucked up economically (big news right) so issues like this are often way more complicated than they appear on the surface.  The real problem is the commodification of food and requiring money as a means to access it.  But that's a whole other can of worms now isn't it....
