Helsinki/Paris
« on: November 01, 2012, 07:48:39 PM »
I'm going to be in Helsinki for a month in December, and Paris for a week in January. Is skating outside completely unreasonable, or is there decent indoors? If skatings not an option then what is?

Here's a sick indoorpark in Helsinki. Kontula metro station. There are some fucked up age limits; if you're over 25 you're shit out of luck, you can skate on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. The park's really good though, check the vid below.

There's another park in Tapiola, Espoo, you have to take the bus from downtown. It's not far, 15 min bus ride. This park is way smaller but you can skate on any day except Tuesday, when it's closed. No age limits here.

Both of these parks get really crowded. If you decide to go, talk to the people at skateshops as in when is the best time to go, directions etc. There are 3 shops in the center, close to each other. www.lamina.fi, www.ponkes.com, www.unionfive.fi.

if there is no snow in paris you might be able to skate but you're gonna freeze your ass off in january. if i'd be you i'd rather check out the city, visit museums, check out thrift stores and weekend markets,  drink wine, go for romantic walks, boat tours, eat great food and make love to the lady than visiting an indoorpark filled with sweaty skaters you don't know.
still if you bring your thermal underwear and wanna skate you might wanna check out bercy, creteil, place italie, ivry, la defence, and le dome.

in january temperature ranges from 1 to 6 degrees.

I'll be in town over New Year, so this info will come in handy - I've skated Kontula a few times in the past, but had no idea on that age limit, unless it's been brought in recently.

I kinda agree, but take some time to roll around, it's the best way to see the sights, get a feel for the city and Paris sidewalks are the smoothest ever! some nice downhills as well, mostly in the northeastern part.....

I think it's fairly recent. The reason is that the park is a youth center. I'm not really sure how they enforce the rule, since I go to the Tapiola park. Skateshops would know.

shit there's loads of stuff but here's a few hints:

le dome (palais de tokyo) and Bercy are sure fire street spots. you've probably seen'em in a lot of videos.

as for indoor parks, there's a bad one (EGP) for bladers/skaters/BMX/whatever. and one good one that's real far in the suburbs (Chelles)

also a pretty good concrete bowl at Porte de la Muette!

check out Vega skateshop or Nozbone

(also Snowbeach, Hawaii Surf and even Citadium are big corporate shops....but more likely to do sales)
