I said it before and I'll say it again - "worst" threads outnumber "best" threads on here by a large margin. Let's all work on that positivity thing, it does wonders for your well-being.

And whoever called out the Shortys Hardware video has very poor opinions. That video is fantastic.
[close]
I'm not saying you're wrong, but a lot of this thread is just posters like myself viewing bad to mediocre videos from our formative years through rose colored glasses. Like, a lot of that early-2000s weirdness I singled out from Opinion seemed questionable to me even when the video came out (and I was an impressionable junior high student at the time), but looking back on it, there's some time capsule value. Plus it makes me laugh.
I understand there is a lot of bandwagoning on slap - people blindly agreeing to like something (especially when a thread starts with a positive comment from a reputable poster), but there is exponentially more negativity for the sake of finding something to be negative about. No doubt there have been bad videos from all eras, everything is not a classic, and no doubt people often paint just about everything as a classic just because it is old. But why constantly make threads looking for something to complain about? Tricks you hate seeing at the end of lines, worst graphic from the second half of 1998, pro with the oddest shaped head (actually, that one could be funny). I think this problem extends outside of skateboarding. I may be crazy but I feel humor has gotten more cynical, the desire for people to tear down others has been greater, fascinations with 'trainwrecked' celebrities has increased, etc., etc.. I can think of a number of reasons why (economic frustration, internet anonymity exposing 'true human nature') but the fact of the matter is if you spend less time putting your mind in a place of negativity you will experience a greater overall mental health. So quit hating you bastards. End rant.

Edit: Maybe I don't belong on Slap.

I know you've been here a lot longer than me, but this is a board where we discuss skateboarding, the good and bads of it. Don't take the hate too seriously, it is just useless wooden toy banter, after all

Butkus, not blaming you for this specifically and maybe that rant was a little much but my original point is that threads are exploring the negative end of the spectrum at least 80% of the time when in the "best" or "worst" format. This wasn't even a bad thread idea, it's just a matter of overall proportions that bug me.

I can't remember too many old videos that I disliked.
Maybe that darkstar video from way back when.  It had good skating but it was pretty boring.

DGK was alright, but I haven't watched it more than once either.  Maybe it's the resolution that bugged me...

What was that H Street video from like '92 or '93, at the height of the big pants / small wheels thing? It was all "flip and hope" tech at like no miles per hour. Virtually unwatchable, even in context.

Are you talking about Lick?  I liked some parts of that video like Dan Peterka and Damian Carbajal.  It wasn't any worse than Da Deal is Dead.

I think it was Lick. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember thinking it was the most terrible thing I'd ever seen.

circa it's time was really lame

Any particular reason?
I quite enjoyed that video, Tony Tave, Windsor James, Sierra Fellers and Colt Cannon all had stellar parts.
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.

I remember watching  its time a bunch of times cause it came free in a magazine. I was into it, besides having the standard skate video editing format I don't see what was bad about that one. Dennis Durrant(sp?) had a great part, weird song though.

I'm sure my nostalgia surrounding that time of my life makes that video better in my eyes.

People are probably referring more to how badly they blew it with the awful skits.
Jordan's part was good, wiegers was sick, supa had some cool stuff.
Also janoski, Gino, and ba footage, so the vid is obviously not all bad.
P rod skating to sonic youth was pretty surprising too

Not always a bad thing, Forrest's unhinged part was mixed and it was exceptionally good.

really? it's just a bunch of stunt skating. it just is missing something that good videos have. there is no character, no flavor, just altogether boring.

Upon further review, that video wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered...kinda. Though I'll never understand how dudes who could lipslide handrails thought it was ok to bounce flip tricks on the ground. That was a painful mini-era in skateboarding...
