Dallas, Texas
« on: August 04, 2013, 09:02:08 PM »
I know this is already a thread, but figured maybe a newer thread might be better to post in (especially since the last one seemed pretty dead).

I'm taking a trip to Dallas at the end of this month with a buddy to go see Dave Chappelle and other comedians at a comedy festival. We're hoping to be able to skate some street spots in Dallas, but don't know of any spots or anything.

Would some Slap pals be oh so kind and help us out?

Thanks.

shouldn't

In order to not start a new Dallas thread, I’m just going to reply to this one. I’ll be in Dallas for about five days and was wondering what I should check out! What’s the main shop here?

haven't been to Dallas in a long time, but you should definitely check out Geometric skate shop! The Houston location shop has a pretty impressive board wall and from the pics posted of the Dallas location, its pretty similar. They got a good squad and a lot of pro skaters come through both locations. Koston was recently signing some boards at the Houston location

I haven’t been to Dallas since index was around but I think there’s a shop called the point in deep ellum. There was all kinds of little stuff I had fun with, and a little ditch near the arena. Also skated the planters at the Ronald Kirk bridge but haven’t been in 8 years so I can’t speak on how any of these spots are

Hey DFW pals I’ll be in the approximate area for a work trip all week, trying to skate some parks in the evening. Hit me up, let’s skate. My hotel is in Richardson. Please let me know some dope places to eat as well. I’m also tryna go to Dealey Plaza and do some flatground

I skated Allen skatepark this evening, I found it pretty fun. Clearly designed by a transition skater, some of the street stuff doesn’t make sense, like having basically no run-up for the largest set in the park. It’s also pretty weathered, I recommend Dragon wheels or equivalent, I was losing a decent amount of speed on my F4s. Also, some of the coping doesn’t grind much at all, particularly on the bigger transition, so perhaps keep that in mind and proceed with caution on 50-50s. Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through and are proficient at skating larger ramps, if you’re a street skater you’ll still have a decent variety of things to skate but you also won’t touch 70% of the park. Prime bank to ledge, a few large and satisfying euro gaps, several ledges of different heights, a few flatbars, only square ones though, nothing round. They’re pretty wide, too, I thought that was weird.

Op, you ok man? Being real here, you doin alright?

I’m at Carpenter skatepark right now, shit’s pretty fun. The bowl is pretty gnarly, especially the vert section. Street stuff is really good, a lot of variety. Really solid ledges. Pretty smooth concrete still. Well designed all around, definitely worth the visit.

Went to John Comer skatepark in Garland this evening, it’s really, really good. It covers a lot of bases and is well laid out, each piece flows nicely into the next one. There’s all sorts of weird stuff to figure out how to skate which I enjoyed, tons of opportunities for creativity. Only criticisms are that it’s swarming with little kids on scooters getting in your way and riding in circles at the bottom of the bowl forever, also there isn’t any vert, there’s one really large quarterpipe that gets close to vert but isn’t quite there. This park is worth going out of your way to visit, it’s easily one of the best I’ve skated.
