Yeah, I always thought it was weird how people will shit on Shane for not having a lively presence outside of his skating, but then think it's so cool when PJ or Heath do the same.
agree with you on the PJ thing but the Heath comparison isn't as strong, dude seems to have an extremely active life presence outside of skating which is part of why people like him so much. Is he still doing those yearly trips where the goal seems to be see how close he can get to death?
I never said that he (or any of them) weren't interesting people. Heath leads a pretty exciting life from what we can gather, but even that isn't as well documented as a lot of pros and their "lifestyles" ala hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers. I always hear people describe reserved dudes like Heath as someone who "lets their skating do the talking", and that seems to be a pretty commendable trait among pros in this weird age where Ryan Sheckler's breakfast is considered journalism. Then you have dudes like Shane who ARE in the limelight, but don't really have a loud personality being advertised, and people hate on him for being dull. To me it just seems like people are way too eager to fish for reasons to hate somebody to justify their own tastes.
Is Shane O'Neil a boring person? I dunno. I don't really care either, since watching his skateboarding footage is probably about as involved with his life as I'll ever be. Truthfully I'd rather have a boring person who kills it then some loudmouth with face tattoos sticking his tongue out at cameras, but then again skateboarding is skateboarding. Hell, maybe PJ Ladd is overtly charismatic off camera. That's neat, but until I see that video part I've been waiting years to see none of that matters to me.
