MK1 Protector
« on: May 14, 2026, 01:11:28 PM »
Been filming MK1 footage with a Tadashi filter for the last 6 or so years, and they've saved my lens countless times from being destroyed. Sadly found out recently that the company isn't making the MK1 filters anymore. Does anyone have any alternatives? Can't really risk filming without one cause I'm pretty prone to getting lens hits

Don't have a great alternative to offer for purchase but i tried to make my own version... I ordered a polycarbonate dome for a security camera off Ali express and then cut it to size with a 100mm holesaw. The drill press i used had too much chatter to be super precise but it worked okay as a proof of concept. I stuck it in a custom 3d printed housing that screws onto my fisheye and doubles as a lens cap.

I got some weird optical artifacts going on so I kind of abandoned the project but it's possible to refine and make this work. If one has access to a mill or a lathe it would be really easy to cut the polycarb accurately.

Good luck :)
