Before everyone loses their minds, take a moment to try and understand why a company who begrudgingly produces much of their line overseas in order to compete with Nike and adidas, and who still tries to produce as much of their line in the USA as possible, would be in favor of some of trump's policies.

thinking critically instead of having a knee jerk reaction isn't the american way though.

and no i'm not a trump fan.

hats off to you for using logic instead of emotion. this is such a big problem to me these days is everyone getting their info from the crooked media clickbait bullshit websites and just reading headlines then forming super hard opinions based on them. its such a hateful time out there on both sides - left and right, its fucked.  i'm also far from a trump supporter but yea it is not hard to see why a company in their position would do that.

also I have stayed off all social media since tuesday night and it has made my life exponentially more enjoyable

How many people will actually read the article vs just the headline.

This is about New Balance and TPP.

Its headlines like these that kill me. I know too many people that get there news from tag lines they read on Facebook.

You mean.... there are more words?!?!

I'M HONESTLY GETTING SICK OF THIS SHIT!

If you voted for him or her, have some god damn respect. The amount of voting shame is unbearable. Don't put someone down for who they wanted to vote for and don't call said person a racist or libtard. The media is the root of all evil, and people who actually believe anything they read on the internet are fucking stupid as hell. I come to slap to talk about skating but even here, I cannot escape this bullshit political bigotry.

Fuck you guys!

I had no idea New Balance was made in the US, but their shoes are so expensive! What happened to the shoe market? I feel like every shoe at   a core or mall shop is $80 and up....and lots of shoes marked down...what items in the store are shops getting margin off of to make up for shoe losses? Or is everyone just paying bills super late?

The skate shoes are made same place as everyone else, various countries in SE Asia. Only their high end running shoes are made in USA.

some of the very best skate shoes I've had are from New Balance. Trump is terrible. I want more things made in this country and not less. New Balance has long been considered one of the most ethical footwear manufacturers, no? What am I missing?

You're missing that they want to compete with China and produce more over here and lower minimum wage. The problem is how much they're paying factory workers in China to satisfy consumer prices in the US. Either it will happen which will be brutal or it won't and it will be a huge waste of time.

Trump is against TPP and NAFTA. Those bills allow American companies to lay off American jobs and move off shore to other countries where they pay workers much lower salaries (Bernie sanders is also against these bills, they killed the middle class). And like already posted, of course New Balance supports trump, they are one of the few companies to actually manufacture shoes in the USA. So potentially bringing jobs back, in combination of Trumps tax proposals will most likely produce a small business boom in our country.

Skate shoes were made in America when I started skating. They were reasonably priced, too. By the time NAFTA passed, Vans was already outsourcing to China.

Even if we were able to cut tariffs from Japanese goods (and, in turn, abolish tariffs on our exports), do you think manufacturing would still return to the U.S. with the overturn of TPP? I guess skateboards could easily be made in the U.S. again and Jim Gray could dust off his old presses, but we still make shit products, like light trucks, that can't compete with Toyota (even with a 25% protectionist tariff).

As was mentioned, New Balance makes a very small percentage of their line in the U.S. Although they would be more prepared to survive if overseas imports are suddenly massively taxed, they would still lose money for a long time.

You guys are talking about a complete restructure of world trade, which ideally would be seriously discussed in a few months. So in other words it's going to be a bunch of bullshit.

The problem with your opinion is that when people look down on and talk down to Trump voters, it's more like they're denouncing Trump voters' tacit acceptance of racism, homophobia, and misogyny. Denouncing bigotry is not bigotry, you fucking moron.

there are so many wonderful layers of depth to this story, including but not limited to the fact that nike is one of the biggest and hardest moving forces in favor of the the TPP, new balance got fucked by Obama on a military contract, and bernie wildly against the TPP for the exact same reasons trump is.

this was a smart move by NB because its means they will probably get that contract they wanted, will be able to be more competitive in the shoe market while staying to to to the value, AND open up new shops in the united states.

also this thread should probably be moved to "whatever."

"I'm a Nike guy. Or rather, I was," Anglin wrote on his popular website the Daily Stormer, which promotes an anti-Semitic, white supremacist agenda. "It's time to get on-board with New Balance now. Their brave act has just made them the official brand of the Trump Revolution."

He tells his readers New Balance is now their "uniform" and claims they should view the company's statement on Trump "taken out of context" as "a gesture to support White people and to support US manufacturing."

"This will be fantastic," Anglin wrote. "We will be able to recognize one another by our sportswear."

Yea, people are regular.

https://news.vice.com/story/people-are-burning-their-shoes-after-new-balance-praised-trump?
These are the same people that want to fight climate change? If they don't like NB, over something that they don't even understand, they should donate their shoes to a church or thrift store. People get overemotional about the smallest things and overreact without knowing what the fuck they're talking about. The differences between people get blurrier, as the years go by.

I always thought New Balance only made select shoes in the U.S. for military contracts. Almost every pro free market news outlet is accusing Congress, with the new National Defense Authorization Act amendment, of cronyism for requiring the military to buy only 100% American made shoes (which makes New Balance the only game in town). I've owned several pairs of their 99x shoes and there has been very little change over the last 20 years (that is, they are a "heritage" model that doesn't compete with modern running shoes).

In the end these free trade agreements screw the little guys like us (it's pretty much supported by most multinational corporations with overseas factories), but it's pretty much corporate welfare for companies who can't compete in an open market (no surprise that GM and Ford are also opposed to TPP).
