So this is what happens when you get old?
« on: February 17, 2017, 05:29:59 PM »
You know I always wondered why the old dudes suck, but use to rip.

Cause Im not getting better, I use to just be stagnant, but now Im just fucking sucking.

Probly cause I havent skated for a month but I dunno, theres more to this shit.

Like as I get older who do I have to prove myself to? Pfff nobody. So Im not jumping down shit and trying new things. Thats not fun. I just like to go fast and shit.

Im just feeling the oldness kicking in and its like fuck, my skateboarding is dying. But everything dies anyway so fuck it.

Feel me? Its kinda sad.

skateboarding is high maintenance and isn't like a bike. you stop doing it and you loose it. marathons are hard...

Yeah I get what you're saying. I don't nearly skate like I used to at all. I used to love jumping down big shit. Now that I'm a functioning adult I'm all about all small things and trying to get tech on them. It's polar opposite now. I like transition but anything over 4ft freaks me out for some reason and always has. Like cruising a bowl gives me anxiety. Looks rad as fuck and wish I had that skill but something in my mind just holds me back.

One of my friends can not skate for like 4 months, come back and nollie heel crook a ledge within a couple tries, among a couple other gap tricks.

I'm not really that old at all yet but even if I skate all the time my back leg seems to be weaker in the knee, so I have to make a ton of effort to get mediocre pop with it, especially like I used to be able to when I was learning all my tricks when I was younger. I just want some kickflips back man

I turned 30 about 7 months ago and I still feel like I'm improving. I always try to either learn new tricks or improve on existing ones.
I have discovered that my body requires more maintenance to keep going.
I changed my diet, cut out soda and sugary foods and drinks. Started doing yoga/ stretches every day.
My bounce back time has increased but if I'm sore I make a point to do whatever it takes to feel good again.
You gotta take care of yourself if you wanna keep going

Yeah you guys are right. I was just being a dumbass because I had a bad session yesterday and attributed to age for some reason.

But son I had crazy visions last night in a dream and it was so beautiful that I feel like I need to stop being a dumbass. Crazy visions, these kids were skating these spots in the most beautiful way in the most beautiful city, it was like canada or europe or something.

I dont know what it means but I feel great and different.

J Soy Brings up an excellent point. I hit a real low point in my skateboarding from 25 to 29 with a similar attitude to the OG poster. Then shit started getting better when I sorted my fucking attitude out.

I don't know, right now I'm trying to make small adjustments. Cut down on smokes, lifting 3-4 times a week and adding some cardio. Less junk food and cooking my own food as much as I can. As soon as it is possible to skate outdoors, we will see if it will help. 29, by the way.

Completely agree with this in my life. After 30, I began enjoying it again. Now at 40, I have the same fun as in my teens.  Stretching daily, good diet, and no booze swelling body is what helped turn the corner.

Edit* I was politely reminded i was residing in the joint mose of 1997-2001 as well.  So yeah, wasn't skating at all.

I'm still really young and at least skate to work almost everyday but I dont get out for 3 hours of ripping to often anymore.  Having to focus on work sucks, especially when it rains on days off. Not being able to skate makes me go crazy, I'll definitely need a hobby to grow old with once my body can't keep up.  Ill skate curbs till I break a hip though, curbs are for life.

After I started eating better, and stretching multiple times everyday (work forces me to stretch every 2 hours and I'm the only employee who doesn't bitch about it). It really isn't as bad as i thought. Mostly my feet get sore now.  Trying all these new insoles for skating, and also for work too. Anyone have an insole they recommend?
My lead hip pops every step, and has since a slam to flat 20 years ago. A true hipper. Doesn't hurt much, but sounds horrible. Yiu can here me walking from across the room like snap crackle pop pop pop. Been taking shark cartilage, glucosamine, and condroiton for 10 years. Not sure if it helps ir not either.

I've found that as I get older the more I become the way i was when I first started skating...not giving a fuck about what level im on compared to others.   Being older also made me wiser about getting hurt, buying the right equipment, skating terrain that is most comfortable , and cutting back immensely on unhealthy habits has helped a lot

That company you work for sounds like it might have a medical plan...buy some orthotics.....

Re: your hip....maybe do some physio.....the right exercises might help keep it more in place....skating misaligns your body pretty good.

There's an old guys thread too eh.....

I'm about to turn 30 and I feel like I've rounded a corner with skating, and it mostly has to do with my attitude. I've always been healthy, but for the last 5+ years I didn't skate enough to really improve, at least not overall, and that bummed me out. Now I don't mind so much that I struggle to do tricks that I once did consistently. I can skate flat ground and do pop shove-its until they feel right, and that is satisfying and calming in a way that skateboarding didn't used to be for me.

Plus, it's still possible for me to improve certain things without skating a whole lot. So just concentrate on the tricks that feel good, and let the ones you did out of obligation fall away.

I'm 28, and I've always sucked, but I learned to really skate tranny in the last year or so. So now I just try to go as fast as I can and front slash the biggest wall I can. Got up to a 10 footer. It's a good feeling.
