the island at embarcedero and the Rockridge BART curbs in oakland are good places to meet people/have a mellow after work session. There’s also that blocked off area in GG Park with the marble(?) ledges. As far as skateparks soma west is usually poppin’, I also like the weird flow and obstacles at emeryville park, and town park (oakland) can be fun when it’s not overrun with kids.

If ya wanna drink beers with cute pro sk8ers uptown and kilowatt are around (though they suck as actual bars)

DLX and Mission Skateboards are pretty good but imo 510 in berkeley is where it’s at

greetings from one massachusetts’r to the other  8)

Appreciate the info - If you're around we should link up and talk about shitty New England stuff

I go to SF a few times a year for work/vacation with the lady

Bernal Heights is dope, here's what I recommend checking out there. It's relatively a quiet neighborhood.

Moonlight Cafe - cheap and large portions of breakfast grub (recommend the bfast burrito)
The Goodlife Grocery - self explanatory

To skate
Waller Ledges - nice meet up spot, good food and coffee around, friendly people
Portrero - sacktap Phelps for me
Hilltop - peanut bowl, pretty mellow transitional based park
Twin Peaks - those ledges tho

To explore
Ocean Beach - surf
Presidio
get a hammock and go to Lands End
grab a beer and lurk mission dolores park in the afternoon
Bernal Heights summit at night - woah

Eat and Drink anywhere you want, cant really go wrong on Valencia street

Stay away from Black Rock and bums that foam at the mouth

Ill be out there at the end of January

This is awesome, much appreciated!

SF seems nowadays like the place you quickly learn to hate, whatever starry-eyed romanticism it was that brought you there initially. Everyone I know who lives there now is constantly talking about how awful actually living there is (as opposed to visiting which is still super fun).

It's tiny, crowded, absurdly expensive and filled with grotesque poverty and ostentatious entitlement all mushed together and hating each other. And on a good day, it's still a beautiful place. But it's kinda like the hooker who looks good from the curb but when you get closer you realize she has no teeth and is covered with sores.

Gotta real Upton Sinclair over here.

in the event you stayed in school and worked your ass off professionally for ~17 years and can earn ~200k, but still a skate criddler at heart...

is it still worth it?

Personally, I don’t think its a good idea. The Bay Area is completely unaffordable. I am finally moving later this year to Honolulu because its cheaper, and more work in my industry. I’m a sailor.

It's expensive here too....Honolulu sucks.

I liked it a lot when I was out there. It’s still cheaper than the Bay Area. I’m gonna be working for Matson, and there’s always gonna be shipping.

If you'll be working the docks, you'll be fine. Lots of money involved along with the corrupt union. But its a win for you!

But I know I gotta give some advice: look in the east bay, lots of good skateparks. 510 is the best shop.
Napa park is fun. Benicia park is good. Creek park is a good one. Moraga park is fun.

Creek park as in Walnut Creek skatepark? I'd only suggest that park if someone is a tranny lover, the 'street' section is tiny and tight. Moraga park has a bit less tranny but is still pretty tight feeling and is usually overrun with 4 to 9 year olds on scooters with parents in attendance shortly after opening. I should know because any time I try and get a session in the morning my wife insists it become a family event and I end up pushing my 3 year old in circles around the park on her scooter and not doing any skating of my own, so I'm part of the problem.

People pretty much stick to their area - I know plenty of SF people who've never really spent any time in the east bay or even on the peninsula. They sure as shit aren't going to Walnut Creek to skate a skatepark - there are plenty of decent skateparks and lots of non-blackrock non-park terrain in SF.
The Bay Area is just a big collection of smaller factions that don't even know each other exist.

Very true.

I’m in Sailors Union of the Pacific. I work ON the Ships. Not on the Docks. You are right, that union is pretty corrupt (the ILWU)

BRING WAX and use it liberally at the spots in magazines/videos that need it, especially when people you recognize are skating it.

Open a checking account at China Banks.

Build a smaller roll in for the three at Wallenburg

Go into FTC and ask for directions to Port Miley.

Carve out a couple days to truly enjoy Hunter's Point.

Ride the cable cars like it's going out of style.
