When I started skating in '87 Santa Cruz was the shit, Wheels of Fire video was on high rotation at my friends place. All the big companies of the time were rad.

By 1989 H-Street was the shit, Streets of Fire vid was cool but skating had moved on in my scene, by 1991 Blind vid was on high rotation and we didn't care about SC and never started caring ever again (H-Street was starting to fade too but Next Gen was rad) Tom Asta is rad though and also their legacy when they were fresh.

Doesn't help that a lot of douchebags now wear their shit here in Australia.

I lived in the seabright district for many years until moving with my dad up to SF. Bill wheels was right up the street and Mike Fox was a block or two away. My friend from SF came down with me all the time and we would skate together. Spending all night skating coming home at 12:30 am from partying in downtown with all the crazies in downtown. I remember one time we were skating down town right by Berdels, and a homeless guy tazed another homeless guy. I miss CA but I'm on an adventure.

isn't that the goal? I remember there was that NHSxTarget rumor a while back. Element want's to do it. ZooYork was the most successful at that for a while.

I have 4 SC boards on the wall. 3 Star Wars and one TMNT. 2 of them I got from reddit secret Santa. I made a personal no collab rule for my wall for now on

I love tom asta and Jake Wooten. I hate SC shapes. Their graphics are meh, Larger brands are always a toss up

how else are the ladies gonna know I like star wars but also rather hangout behind an abandoned shopping center on a Saturday than go bowling with her friends.

There team fucking rips prolly harder then any team on this planet currently other then primitive. Like lb for lb it’s easily one of the best companies in existence, I don’t even need to back this argument up, if u know u know. Also for those that shit on collars at least they get the fucking dope ones, I’m not gonna lie I saw one of those TMNT SC hoodies on a dude at some rando park the other day and was like that’s actually tight af it was in a dope colorway. Either way Winkowski, McCoy, and Wooten make me feel like skateboarding is in good hands for years to come.

They were the shit back in the 80's, I learned to kick flip on a Tom Knox (no, the other one). After they dipped in the dark times I am amazed they even have a team. Should be getting along OK on collaborations for the kids and reissues for the olds who will barely get the tail scraped if they don't just go straight on the wall.
Their team rips, if they get paid that is great, I'd rather buy into something that is more relevant and pushing forward rather than sitting on Cruz control.
Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Jimbo is still one of the best illustrators in skate history, and has remained amazing (his Woden graphic is as good as any of his classics), while VCJ has lost it.

Plus, they have Winkowski and Asta, two of the most talented dudes in the game

The team is tight I even enjoy the footage they put out. And I think nhs as a whole does a good job releasing media even if it’s my Indy’s and product pillage and shit. And I watch any SC footage that comes out cause the team kills. Fabiana is great. But the brand of SC is corny as fuck

Two different artists. Jim Phillips was classic era SC, now its his son  Jimbo. Very similar styles. Unless Dad, came out of retirement for the graphic you speak of?

Yeah, loved SC/ SMA when I found skateboarding. My first few boards were all SC, psychotic, Claus Grabke, Claus street, Corey OBrien, many Dressens. Always had to have Indys and Speedwheels. Up until, as mentioned, H Street blasting down the door. I have a few reissue wall hangers to remind me of what it was like when I started but I don't really skate any NHS product anymore.

There was an interview with TK, when he was a plumber. He got asked if he gets recognized on the job and his response was "No. Plumbin in disguise." Everyone on SLAP thought he said "put him in the sky"

Santa Cruz is what I'd expect a 12 or 50 year old to ride. Their riders are good but the whole company bores me. They've had a bunch of horrible licensing deals too: Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Spongebob, etc. Not for me.

Talked to a friend about SC a few weeks ago and we came to this conclusion. Assuming the decks are okay, the image of the company is just too West Coast for East Coast-types. Basically a tourist/PacSun bran. Plus, I see the Screaming Hand everywhere now.

Team is dope as hell though.

It's definitely a west coast shtick (to be fair, it's in the name). Had one before then battered it to shit - it was okay but I don't care to ever get one again. Their logo's also played out.

Not liking SC for being West Coast is fair enough, i guess

I always hated Zoo York or anything else strictly East Coast
