Does multi coloured grip tape ruin footage for you?

I guess I'm old but colored/logo grip just kills me...worst is red followed closely by yellow. I was looking at the newest thrasher and Dilo rips but every photo with the shook junt was hurting my eyes. All black 4 piece for life.

I was lucky enough to be able to grab stuff at the bakerboys warehouse from time to time.

one time one of the guys asked if I needed grip, when he saw my hesitation he reached down into a cubby and had some plain shake junt grip and was like "don't worry, I get it"

so to answer your question, I prefer straight black for myself and don't really love seeing graphic or colored grip in parts.

I guess I'm in the minority; colored grip is pretty rad depending on the setup and style of the rider and I don't think it kills footage at all.
One deathwish setup I have, has gold(more of a tan) shake junt to match the gold bricks on the bottom graphic. I like it and have yet to see anyone else with it.
My other cruiser boards have mob clear strips to see top graphics mixed with black.

I always go black mob but stencil a triangle on the nose pointing forward like the “play” button on a tape player. It tells me it’s the nose and reminds me I’m just playing with a toy.
Occasionally I’ve been a bit bored/burnt out on my skating so I’ve stenciled flames coming down the nose just to remind me to go fast and have fun.
I’d never buy non-black.

I came into skateboarding at the peak muska era, so I have always had a thing for a little customization of the grip... But I fucking hate it when I see the shake hunt grip - the customization should be there to provide a little identity or something, it should never be something mass-produced! Fuck that.

Actually I disagree. Skateboarding is fixated with style and expression for a reason. Skateboarding needs to look good! This is why a bs ts can be cooler than a ssbsts on the same obstacle. The best skateboarding looks good - and the fucking bear and Shake Junt shit doesn't look cool!!

(I think if they made that grip exclusively for themselves, I might have a different opinion. Then it would be sort of like a little uniform, which I think can be pretty funny)

P.S. I get way more up in arms about griptape than what makes any reasonable sense.

Nah I fully agree with you on that- I just mean if the trick is done proper I'm not gonna get bent out of shape about the grip. Gage Boyle and Frankie Heck are good examples. They do shit proper but they ride SJ. I don't think the grip takes away from the actual trick itself- it just impacts what i think of the taste of said skater.
