If you think this is a problem, remember skateboarding is a individual "sport" after all, you don't need to follow trends or care about them, you don't even need to have friends, just get your board and go skate.

Just stop for a second and appreciate the fact that competing YouTube skate gods, Jon Hill and Chris Chann, are skating

It's a toy, it's our toy, people who take skating seriously, I don't but whatever floats their boat. Skating is fun with friends, Goofing off with skateboards is fun.

In my mind there are skaters and people who want the image. I'm all cool with people who wan't to skate anyway they want but don't try to act like it makes you cool. Skateboards are toys, not a ticket to fame and glory. Do you want to just do slappies? Fuck it do it, wanna just do kickflips? Fuck it do it.

But don't act like one is less superior than the other because at the end of the day were all playing with the same toy.
It's monday morning sorry if this seems like rambling.

Moving to a smaller town made me realise that for a lot of (most?) people, skateboarding is pretty far removed from the super self-aware discussions that happen here. Lots of teenagers in Element t-shirts trying varial flips and stuff. Even the dudes who are pretty good are more likely to have seen the latest Braille video than Verso.

When I started skating in the early 90's I was vibed the fuck out by everyone older than me all the time. It only made me want to get better at skating, not go home and cry. Not sure where this utopian feel good time period that you're alluding to existed. Hazing and shit talking has always been a part of skateboarding for as long as I can remember.

It made me wanna go home and cry. It’s sick being old and not giving a shit
