Wide shoe found
« on: May 14, 2020, 10:48:12 AM »
Spent some time off the board and started wearing "barefoot" style shoes to heal my feet. Trying to find shoes to skate again has been a nightmare. Came across these Keens with a wide toe box, but they come at a $$.

DC Evan Smith & T-Funk. Evan for lighter boardfeel and T-Funk if you prefer more ankle support.

Let me know how those skate. I can get Keen for free but I never thought to look for a skate shoe in their catalog. I usually just hit them up for hiking boots.

Are T-Funks any good? Can't really find much info about them.

So I did a marketing internship with Keen like 4 years ago. I skated one of their vulc-ish shoes just for personal interest. It was hard as fuck, durable rubber but not great for flexibility or grip. So be wary before you drop that much cash on a shoe.

I found a good wide cupsole option via New Balance (but not Numeric). Has both standard and wide options. This leather one on their website is kinda spendy, but you can find cheaper colorways elsewhere if you search.

Just fair warning, those are much more narrow than typical non-numeric NBs. Even in wide people complain its narrow. A wide shoe that is kinda a throwback is the Airwalk the ones which journeys has. Not my style but its an option.

That’s wild, it looked like this was a fairly new shoe for them. The vulc can’t be too crazy but who knows, wasnt ready to drop the lute yet.

I keep hearing horror stories about the NB’s false claimin wide widths.

They have below average board feel and a high heel. Very grippy and has a great toe.

Personally think they look gross esp. with shorts so I won't buy another pair.

Imagine thinking the TFunk offered ankle support. Lol The low and the high top are paper thin around your ankle = no protection.

I've heard a couple NB shoes are fairly wide. NB# Pro Court 212/213 is decently wide for a vulc shoe, if you're trying to find a skateable wide shoe.

Imagine thinking ankle support means only some padding around your ankle.. It comes from the soles and how they sit on your feet.

They're great for my fucked up feet. Skating 3rd pair of hi tops with Footprint elites and low tops with stock insoles had become my favourite shoe for work/stand and walk around all day. Only downside is as Evans, the soles wears flat pretty fast. At first they felt little awkward to skate cos of that thickness, but once i get used to it I love it.

Vans has always been my go-to. Most of their shoes are decently wide. I do swap the insoles out so I can get better arch support though.

Slip-On Pros, Kyle Walker’s, and Half Cabs are all good options.

Can one of you guys post a pic of your super wide feet? No burn or anything, but it seems like a fairly common problem on here. People always scrounging for some huge wide shoes because they can’t fit normal ones. In my head your feet are as wide as the boxes my shoes come in.
Can I see one for real? Not a fetish thing or anything, just really intrigued.

Imagine me letting my dislike of TFunks shoe override what I don't know about it through my opinion. 🤦🏻‍♂️
When trying them on in a shop I did not feel that they offered good ankle protection on the collar, heel cup, or cushioning of the sole but I'm a cupsole skater nowadays so that probably explains why.

On the contrary, I loved Evan's low and hi top before they did the "zero" version. It was wide in the toe and skated great. Good amount of cushioning throughout. I learned FS crooks in them and I wanna owe it to the shoe and not my skills haha

Foot width over 4” is pretty much considered wide. My foot looks pretty normal, but when you skate in scrunched shoes from 17-32 you gon learn to prioritize foot health. Some skate shoes literally come to a point, said no foot ever.

Those All Coast 574s are sorta Numerics. My understanding is that they are designed out of Long Beach just like the rest of the Numeric line and aren't quite as durable but are mostly the same otherwise.

I'm feeling sassy cuz I just measured my feet and found out that my foot is 4 inches wide on the nose. As Tweab mentioned that's totally standard. I thought I had wide feet but I think i was just trying to run pointy ass shoes at one time, sized up and just stayed there. I've been wearing a full size too big mostly because of width.

Shoutout to you, Toadfish for asking for foot pics. Easily the most common ask on the internet these days but surprisingly absent from Slap.
