Stan smiths was the example but basically something where your foot is pretty sunk in and natural angles etc.
This was in the early 00s and he was an older guy so I think he probably went from the most simple types of shoes thru all the dumb tech bullshit and saw first hand how it was bogus. He hated anything air bubble and especially hated Rowley XLT style (which includes the yogis, he also hated the height) where your foot is on-top of a foam wedge basically just asking to get sprained.
