There’s the black skater angle, but there’s also the fact that he’s one of the greatest skaters of all time and doesn’t seem particularly interested in the skateboard culture that so many people are so heavily invested in. It probably marks a changing of the guard, and many subsequent Zoomer pro skaters will be more like TJ than Cardiel, or other previous skate gods, who lived and breathed skating.

yeah man the old white man lived and breathed skateboarding learning every trick was so hard and his body got bruised and Tyshawn was just good from the beginning no training no hard work no taking a part of tricks doing them over and over agian nothing

Skating isn't about training, skating isn't about money. I mean, he could at least pretend he skates out of love and stop pretending he's on NBA. And Stevie Williams also has the whole black entrepreneur thing going on, but he doesn't seem contrived in any way, his image is always skate rat first and the rest after.
