Vietnamese Food

The Mexican food thread inspired me. I’m a huge pho and Vietnamese food fan. Post your shit, drop recipes, recommendations in your cities, etc…

I’ll start. Pho Cyclo in south Philly. Brisket pho and shrimp summer rolls.

I miss having a good pho spot in my area. The closest one is 30 minutes out if traffic isn't being dumb.

I think they're putting one in my town finally which is going to be really clutch. Pho is my go to "I'm Sick" meal. Also bahn mi makes my mouth water

My go-to is bun bo Hue! Spicy soup with a thicker noodle than pho, and a bunch of meaty stuff going on, including a coagulated blood cake if it's legit (not my favorite part of the dish, honestly, but I always eat it). I also like bun cha Hanoi, which is usually a vermicelli dish with meatballs, pork belly, and a bunch of herbs, sometimes with a little cup of rich broth on the side.

Good thread!

I’ve had a lot of really bad pho in my life, a lot of dude’s thumbs in my bowl. I lived in little Saigon for years, had a lot of great pho too. That said, Joe’s pho in San Leandro is the best. Little pricey but massive portions and quality meat.

Can’t go wrong with any chicken/beef/pork and rice combo plate.

I don’t fuck with pate on my bahn mi.

I always dug the bun, because you get spring rolls, but it’s still a main…..

I’m into making Soda Chanh on hot days. Juice of a whole lime, sugar, club soda (not seltzer). More sugar than you think and it’s still way less sugary that a canned soft drink.

Coldbrew: I’ll have to check out Pho Cyclo. I usually get Pho Ha because it’s close although a Vietnamese friend insists Pho Ha Saigon in the Oregon Market has the best broth in the city. I’m no expert but it’s definitely good.

If your not just getting Pho, Nam Phuong is great. Sometimes crowded (tour busses of Vietnamese tourists from NYC stop there regularly) but the food is legit. The clay pot fish is awesome. They also have alcohol.

The city I lived in most of my life until last year has a really big refugee community compared to its size in general. We took in a lot of Vietnamese in the 70s and 80s, so for a city of less than 300k in the middle of flyover country we actually have a lot of really good Vietnamese restaurants. My favorite being Vung Tao. But there are something like 4 strip malls in town with all Vietnamese restaurants/markets/businesses in general.

Has anyone else here ever been to a Vietnamese Catholic wedding? You probably don't drink Hennessy anymore if you have.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

"Saigon on Brant" in Burlington is worth the drive for those west of Toronto in the GTA. Old school joint that is a little worn down but the food is sooo good.

Bun bo hue is the most criminally slept upon spicier cousin of pho. The blood tofu is the bomb.

glad to know I'm going to the right pho place in the Bay lol although I haven't had their pho yet, but I do enjoy their bun bo hue!

For those in the Houston area, Yummy Pho & Bo Ne, makes great pho. My favorite is their pho ga which is prepared with an amazing chicken broth as some pho places will still use beef broth for their chicken pho lol

If you're around the Orange County, CA area, Bahn Xeo Boys at Rodeo 39 is a must hit for some modern Vietnamese crepes.

I used to live near the GG Brodard. I miss Bahn Mis, Crepes, and Vietnamese food being that close.

I've actually never been to a Vietnamese restaurant, never had Pho despite there being several highly rated establishments that serve it in my town. What's a good place to start? I'm an adventurous eater and always down to try new things

Been on a beef stew craze myself with ho fun noodles.

Laos food has been the jam as of late and I am seeing a lot more spots open in the Bay Area. I have been saying Laos food is going to the new Vietnamese food if that makes sense.

My mind is blown by how many GTA skaters are here on slap. Never thought I'd see the day where Saigon on Brant is mentioned but here we are....

If you're in Toronto, Pho Linh is hands down the best Vietnamese you can get. Just had fried chicken verm tonight.
