Toe/Heel Touch Strictness
« on: March 24, 2023, 02:31:15 PM »
What are your criteria for disqualifying a trick as a "make" if the skater's toe/heel touches?
Do you hold your own skating to the same standard for toe/heel drag that you hold others to?

I am personally pretty strict on myself about this - I will usually re-do tricks with even a slight toe/heel touch, but I also have a decent amount of madness with making my tricks look "perfect" anyway.

That being said, if someone else lands something super tech or really gnarly and there's a little toe kiss, I'm still considering it a make. Both toes or obvious drag? Might need a re-do...

I don't like to call a toe or heel drag a make for myself, I'm even kinda eh if my feet look weird at any point, but if other ppl want to count them that's cool, they're probs having more fun than me anyway.

At this point I can drag both heels/toes and put a hand down and I'll take it

As long as it doesn't completely kill my speed, I don't care.

I did a trick the other day where my front foot landed with the toes off the board (no touch) and I counted it but if it touched I’d have redone it

There's actually a Greco interview where he explains the "rule". I think it was if only two things touch is a make but three isn't.

Personally I got size 13-14 feet and am too old to care if I get a bit of heel touch. Toe drag always sucks tho

Hand on the ground can look really good if the skater is hauling ass. Hand on the ledge usually looks a bit shit and toe drag is always a no.

I started skating wider boards to avoid this. Not because the trick doesn't count, but because a front foot toe drag can be a rolled ankle.

good feeling/looking trick is more important than dragging heel and toe for me

I can be annoying in friendly games of skate, I remember redoing fakie bigflips over and over, like cmon man it's not a serious competition and I clearly have the trick

If it even looks like my toe or heel touched I don't count it (for myself). More of a thing to keep me from being sloppy.

It's not a matter of counting or not, most of the time it's just ugly.
Strange case, one of the most stylish skaters with one of the ugliest landings,

Last trick of the vid.
I don't know why it was included, even for 94 standard it's bad.

As long as it looks good.

That’s the only standard in skating.

There were a few cases where I rolled away from a trick and did not realize I dragged toe/heel but only learned it upon review of the clip, to my great frustration. It doesn‘t really count in my book but I have included a clip in a part because it was barely noticeable and I had been battling this line for two weeks.
why come?

It’s a slippery slope; you start counting a little heal drag as a make, next thing you know you’re out there having a good time.

I don’t think I can physically do a noseslide without my big feet dragging. I’d need a comically large board
