In the days of ridiculously large pants, I remember my heel getting stuck on the bottom of my jeans as I crouched to do any trick or after pushing. Thus I pre-trick pant hiked oft.

Ray Barbee 2.00 disagrees.

I notice Spenny does this a ton, and although I think he’s amazing it’s kind of annoying tbh. I get that maybe it helps with the setup, but I’m pretty sure it’s just become a habit at this point. Others are doing it also I’ve noticed.

Is this a new trend or has it always been around? What’s the history?

I’ll admit this is a frivolous, shit thread, but just wondering if other people notice this and what their opinions are.

The baggy pants Era was fucking gold for this

It's the equivalent to a basketball player hiking their shorts up before defending a tough opponent. Probably has some basing in helping get the pants out of the way of your legs, probably has more to do with mentally getting in the right head space to shut that shit down though.

that kid toby bennett who i think rides for WKND and has the quick feet does this a lot.

doesn't really bother me, i like that kids skating. his part in this video looked cool, below is the example that comes to mind. i absolutely love that one foot mid line.

some people dont want to get their pants dragged
so you have two choices
wear those stupid high waters, or lift your skirt  ;D

or you could just wear pants that are the proper length

Hear, hear! Tailoring is underrated.

Is it really about the pants length tho? They do it in muay thai every 0.4 seconds. Very annoying

I do this a lot. I also sweat a lot and the first thing that gets sweaty on my legs are my knees. My friends find this hilarious. If I have pants where it clearly shows that they’re sweaty, I’ll have completely damp knees before any swamp ass. So I do it to avoid my knees sticking to the pants. Would be nice not to have to do it but I’m no style king anyway so I’m fine with it.

Anyone thinking this is about pants falling down, pants too baggy you need to pull them up, needing a belt, etc. are scrubs.

Anyway, I still kinda have a habit of doing the "grab my pants at the knee between my thumb and index finger and tug just slightly just enough that a little sock is showing" before hitting a ledge trick. 100% nervous tick and fake steeze, but whatever I've been doing it since I was like 14 so my midwit brain has incorporated it into my skate life.

i always imagined it starts with a pair of pants gone wrong and then it just turns into a nervous tick / coping mechanism

I first noticed this with Wade D and his legendary fits in the Kayo vid way back.

Wasn’t Spenny one of those giant white tee shirt Canadian kids way back?  Could be ingrained force of habit.

Haha kinda reminds me of the crotch grab/readjust people used to do.....

Who's the user on here with a signature that is a guy doing two separate crotch adjustments mid manual? That's what this thread is making me think about, haha.
