My experience was actually really good. I didn't get hassled i got shit done. I even ollied the Gonz gap on a MILK board with no nose left on it. Sooooo stoked to have landed that gap, that was the highlight of my skate life. hah.

Eating Acid for the first time and trying to 3 flip the seven with Drake, meeting everyone that I remain friends with. Being one of the Cincy kids that got heckled at first with Ned and then Kelch having our backs. Sleeping in the car, under the wave, in the heat shaft by the hotel.

WhenI was growing up in Santa Rosa I went down to skate Embarco almost every weekend. Used to skate with Umar and his brothe Saldine(sp?), met York and Karl W. never got vibed, Kelch did get a bLind hat off me for some wheels, never saw the wheels. sawa some amazing skating go down, don't remember the tricks because at the time i wouldn't have known what they were.

I went there when I was 13 (97) with my parents and my mom went down there with me, i ollied the 7 and was psyched! They had a fence blocking the gonz gap and every ledge was completely chunked out. On the way back to our hotel we walked right through the tenderloin by accident and we saw a fight in the street at like 5 p.m.

i went years after all the hype like 98 i think. noseslid the stage and tried to ollie the seven in the dark. it was much smaller in real life. no one was there and no cops came.

Sorry i'm just cut and pasting my EMB story here, i think it was maybe 98 or 99 i can't really remember, anyway, from the York thread -

The only times i skated there was WAY after it had died a death and you got busted for even skating through it, thank fuck a heave Scottish accent being put on for the cops and lots of "AYE, how can we nea skatebald hulr ?" "I jis didna keen how it's nea allowed, keen, a've jis cum fae A'Deen tae skatebuld is place, an it's nea allowed - how nea ?" which just confused the shit out of them, and got them into speaking about there grand father being form "the homeland" they let us skate for a wee bit, and told us not to skate here, later on that day everyone got chased away from the Peir, bar me and my mate who just chatted to the cops, as it was the same cops about 2 hours later, ohh how we laughted

"You boys AGAIN ? - You're not allowed to skateboard here !" - "How' a'body else is, is it nea a skatepark or summit ?"

The genius that is naive innocents mixed with a shit heavy Doric accent, those Cops must have thought we were slightly regular in a cute "they're from Scotland, they probably dont' have running water or flushing toilets" manner. . . . .

Me and my two homies went there in late 1993 and we smoked weed way off in the corner by ourselves and got dirty looks for not sharing I guess.

We saw tons of peeps there during the week or so we stayed in SF, we ended up down there every day usually or started the day there.

We skated with Brian Young, Drake Jones, Karl Watson, those Russian twins George and I don't remember the other one's name, Chico Brenes was there one time there was some dude running three card monte' and trying to take people for their money and nobody could figure out that it was impossible for the dude to lose, I was like "Don't do it. It's a really good scam when you know what you're doing". I think some of those dudes were almost gonna try it.

We saw Koston one day rolling by himself through the streets right on the other side of the Hyatt, he was on his way there but didn't skate.
Same with Guy, also in town at the time but the one time we saw him one day chillin' there it looked like he didn't even have a board with him.

Saw Kelch in line at one of those food places right there and he was talking about going through some negotiations or something or other with Real at the time, not sure what was happening but the dialog remains fresh in my mind. He was trying to sell some new wheels for like 10 bucks and he was telling us of his conversation with the Real higher ups. "I tol 'em fi'teen hunnert a month, they got me this SkyPager, shit..they better come correct!" Shit was pretty hot right there.

I just remember that every time someone even stood up on the Gonz runway to even look at it, the whole place kind of stopped and everybody was all "oooh is this guy gonna try something?" like. Same with the seven. Everyone was checking everyone out really hard but the scene was dope, we were tripping because it was the first time we ever really saw that many pros and known dudes at one place and it was theee place at the time in skateboarding. That trip was super sick and I'm stoked I got to see it happening when it was.

I went there in December '97 and there was an outdoor skating rink there, no shit. Family oriented to the fullest. No skaters, nothin. The ground was chunkier than I thought but still nice by Winnipeg standards. The wax on the C-block had been long faded. I ended up going to the Pier and splitting a 20 bag with Lavar. We rolled a massive blunt and Lavar was doing frontside flip, switch frontside flip, over and over, tic-tacing, never putting a foot on the ground. Then he cruised up to a ledge and nailed a textbook switch crook.

cards tried it way before that, i think it was in 93 and im sure if he made it or not, he had a photo of it in a old big brother interview...

i learned nose slide to crooks and nose slide to back 50 there, i fell of the runway and smacked my head pushing switch at the gonz...the locals were really cool i thought..
