Garage Set-Ups
« on: October 15, 2022, 04:15:32 PM »
What are the best set ups for a 1 car garage? 2 car garage?

Can a fun mini-ramp be built inside a 1 car garage or is it too narrow for anything taller than 2 feet?

I can't contribute any good suggestions, but I'd like to see a discussion on this too. I'm also thinking about getting a couple of low quarter pipes for my garage, something I can move and store so we can still park inside.

@Tight Pants Big Wheels

I'm glad someone else is thinking of pursuing the Todd Falcon dream as well.

1 car garage is pretty tuf to make much worth it. Standard ceiling height? Made a little 3ft ish quarter in my friends garage but you needed to runup from outside, we were both over 6ft so youd have to duck and not lift your arms and it was crazy loud. I'm sure theres a bunch of stuff we could of done for the noise but apart from a fun couple hours building we maybe skated it for about five hours total so wasn't even really worth it.

So what are you actually working with? Is the ceiling  Sheetrock or plywood? Just exposed rafter beams? What the width and length? Is it a 1 or 2 car?
 If it’s a 2 car that’s about 20x20 you can have a decent sized mini or a few quarters. If it’s ceiling is covered(sheet or ply) you can get away with about 2 1/2’ if its uncovered, maybe more depending on how tall you are.

I think height of ceiling is probably biggest factor versus length and width.  Can you measure ceiling height?  I just finished a basement project where I thought I'd do a mini, but realistically due to ceilings being only 8 feet (which actually is high for a basement) decided to go with more smaller ramps as the mini ramp adds a need for a addition footage (i.e., if you have a 2 foot mini ramp, its actually higher than a 2 foot quarter because its "off the ground" if that makes sense).

or you could not build it that way

8 foot ceiling, 30 inch tall ramp, the skater is 5'10" on a good day. Chris Gregson skated it too and he's like 6'3"

A 2 foot tall ramp the size of a parking space is the perfect thing to get you up and going in the morning. Even if you're hungover you have no excuse to not skate it. Turns into a treadmill for skate legs. My best years of skating and skinniest I've ever been is when I had that ramp house

I’m 6’ and have a 32” quarter on my patio that has an 8’ ceiling. Haven’t hit my head on it ever. I’m not sure about anyone else, but I’m never standing straight up when I skate transition.
