Ron's story is really interesting. Going from being a young skater for Blockhead to running the company's art direction, then working for Transworld/Balma, Sector 3, Acme/Strike with Jim Gray, working with or for Rocco / World, Dorfman / Vision, Ed & Vallely, Grape Netwerk and founding RVCA... That's a lot for one person!

Got a Tragicomic 2 model hanging behind my screen, so I spend most of my days looking at Ron's artwork  :D

I was not at all familiar with Ron in name but am realizing I’ve seen quite a lot of his work over the years; this was one of my favorite CBI interviews. Thanks Chops.

Thanks Chops. Blockhead ( and Ron and Dave) have been favorites of mine forever. I always thought Blockhead was so underrated. At the time when skulls and bones ruled their boards looked so different.  Skater owned so early on too…

As kids we all said, "Nothing is cool" to each other all the time. One of the most timeless pieces of joke comic (?) I've ever seen. I still think about it all the time...it's a part of me. So goofy and fantastic.

Amazing read, and should be required reading for anyone wondering what it takes to not only make great graphics, but how to approach making them your own.

An underappreciated gem.

"I can’t imagine that being an easy decision for you.

Oh, it was basically like a divorce. Super traumatic to go through. But the Tracker thing was just way too restrictive. Like, they hired this real estate marketing lady to manage the art agency at TWS that I “worked for”. She wouldn’t even let Dave come over unannounced to meet with me and brainstorm. And then they hired this other older guy who was, like, a motivational speaker? Neither of them knew anything about the core skate market at all. I guess he was supposed to oversee all of Larry Balma’s companies. The guy started denying all of my graphics!"

lol Larry Balma was such a kook.

And Nothing is Cool is such a legendary graphic. Great work again, Chops.
