In October of last year I went out on another session to work on the project the local crew and I are working on. We pull up to the spot and I pull my VX1000 out. I look through the camera with the fisheye on and knew immediately that I had a problem. Either the CCD was knocked out of alignment or something else. The vignette was so off that I could see inside the fisheye at the very bottom. Basically rendering the camera useless. This as you can imagine put a downer on me for a while.

No matter though as I still at the time had my HPX171 and could just do the whole 4x3 thing. However I became more and more frustrated with the quality of the DVCProHD Panasonics and was growing tired of it trying to look HD when it really just isn't. I wanted to go back to the VX. In the time between getting the 2100 and my 1000 breaking, I had sold my HVX200, my HVX201AE and traded my HPX171 with Jack Brooks from Palace.

Jump forward to last week when I got a dm letting me know a guy called Branden was selling his practically untouched VX2100e. He wanted £400 for the camera, tapes, a shit ton of batteries, a light, and a ton of cables. Even though I'm jobless and of course money is tight, I snatched it up. I set up a collection and pay a pretty penny to get it overnighted to my house. However, the guy Branden forgot to put the shipping label on it, and so UPS couldn't pick it up till the day after. Monday rolls about, no updates since Saturday and I'm shitting it.

I get the damn box home and open it and immediately I love it. It's everything I had wished for in the VX1000. It has a good screen, easier to reach functions, and overall a better build. Popping the fisheye on it, it immediately looks better than the same Kapkur fisheye on the 1000. Making sure the audio is set manually, it just works. Sure it's not the 1000 audio, but it still sounds pretty damn good.

I don't know why I am posting this, but I feel like the amount of stress brought onto me by trading my HPX and buying a VX on Instagram is something that maybe isn't talked about? If done with people you know personally I am sure it's a smoother and easier process but doing all of this with people you don't know really does add an amount of stress and anxiety to the whole thing. Maybe they just fucked me over? Maybe they scammed me? I had never talked to Jack or even known of Branden.

Fortunately everything worked out in the end, and after testing the camera with a homie it seems to be all gucci which I'm very happy about. But I can't ever imagine buying a camera from a reseller. Especially with their reputation as it stands of marking prices up and straight up scamming people. Madness. Anyway here are some pictures of the camera.

whatever you do if you have a mk1 make sure you have a screw bayo to attach it. i had one of those twisty ones and got knocked while filming one day and my immaculate mk1 scratched so hard on the ground that it looks like the solar system now. just be careful
