I got no problem with the bird man but he did try and jump on the NFT scam-wagon when he was doing tricks ‘for the last time’ and was trying to sell the footy as NFT’s…….he was probably a bit late to the party…I don’t think it went anywhere though. Aside from this, and the gambling adverts, I think his contribution to skateboarding easily outweighs his mis-steps. He is not grifting our hobby.

Tony Hawk has been more productive on a skateboard over the last decade than Eric Koston has.

Not that this means anything towards the argument, but its kinda crazy to think about.

I don't even know if its true statistically but it definitely feels like it.

https://skatepark.org/

I don't disagree that non-profits do some weird stuff sometimes, but skatepark.org did in fact help out when I was working to get the Warm Springs Tribe, in Oregon, a new skatepark on their reservation. There were a lot of people who originally said they would help out 100% but then backed away once the project became a reality. The skatepark.org folks stepped in at the 11th hour and helped me get the park built. They procured the funds and worked with brands to help get the kids on the reservation new gear (boards, shoes, helmets and pads). Although some people have unfavorable interactions with non-profits, some actually do good work within the communities. I am SO stoked Warm Springs got a new park and am thankful for all those involved in making this idea become what it is today.

How?

“A grifter is a confidence artist or swindler who obtains money or advantages through deception, fraud, or manipulation rather than force. They often use charm, false personas, and fabricated urgency to exploit trust, frequently appearing legitimate.”

We’re old.  The youth repurposed that word from its original meaning.  Drives me crazy too.  Basically is just an insincere sell out now.  They have no problem with sell outs as long as you believe in yourself.

Everyone’s so quick to shit on Stevie and the Birdman but Spanky, Nora, Mikemo, and Alex Olson were also on the NFT train. The “nifty” website a lot of em were using is down:

There’s no way someone actually paid 7K for Spanly NFT of some horse hands trotting on a smiley face.

The Grifters (1990) is a noirish sort of crime thriller starring John Cusack, Angelica Huston, and Annette Benning in her peak, iykyk. A sharply made movie about hustlers and con artists, it has a cunning, harsh tone to it but the storyline veers into odd, uncomfortable places for sure. Not for everyone, but an interesting watch, for sure.

Since no asked, I dug into what I could from Push Movement's financials and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/921973657

The high volume of contributions lead me to believe there's no way Brent's going around asking for people to donate to get $190k of revenue, so I looked to see if they received any grants and found a few. Since they've had ~$89k in the bank (presumably based on these filings), it makes me think that they are beholden to use those funds for a certain project they received a grant for. Anyways here's some grants I see they've received.

https://www.oregonmetro.gov/sites/default/files/2026-03/nin-capital-grants-awards-2016-2025.pdf
https://www.zeffy.com/grant-programs/23-7108002_40k_push_movement_school_skateboard_program_an_4lrvha
https://ktvz.b-cdn.net/2024/05/OCF_Community_Grants_Spring_2024_Grants_List.pdf
https://www.awesomefoundation.org/en/projects/212392-push-movement

Even in those links it's not easy to definitively say how much they've received but they're obviously active in looking for them. Applying for grants isn't an easy process and requires time and connections to the community (at least somewhat). They also reported a $30k loss last year, and Brent was the only one to take a salary ($62k) so assuming the smallest amount of overhead (taxes and such) to keep it running means they spent ~$140k towards something. Running skate events under a nonprofit can end up pricy if you want to do it legitimately since you need insurance, and if they are part of neighborhood revitalization grant they probably spent a good amount towards that.

They also had some "skate program" revenue in past years, nothing in 2025 but it does mean they were running some type of skate camp thing presumably.

All that to say, it doesn't really seem like he's grifting. If you consider him receiving a barely livable salary for putting in work to receive grants grifting, your problem is more with the capitalistic "nonprofit" system the US has, which honestly is fair.

Welp, you shut that shit down in literally one post.

Push movement hasnt done any events yet in '26 because they are opening theie own skatepark and community center in late May. So theres that too.

I really dig this one. Cusack/Huston/Benning all played their parts brilliantly.

I guess to be fair on Stevie, he was all in on NFTs and appeared to lose a bunch of money along with everyone else when the market for them crashed. So if you define grifter as someone shamelessly trying to sell a scam to people, i'm not sure if he qualifies. He's a lousy businessman and got way too wrapped up in a fad, but I wouldn't accuse him of stealing from people.

I guess if anything could qualify as grifting, he kept throwing these parties to sell through the lifestyle of web 3.0 in the middle of the NFT market cratering.

Well, there are grifters and then there are grifteurs.

She was like some big TikTok celebrity before allegations. I think there was video of her kissing and touching her friend while the guy was completely passed out. The guy accused her, she denied it and had legal team take care of it. Never got any charges. She went away and found god as these type of people would.

I’m not going to search for the interview, but I remember Dill talking about getting Mikey Taylor kicked off AWS because he wasn’t “kicking ass” and he wanted to get rid of dead weight, so he started FA which is currently 50% dead weight.
[close]

I dont even like Mikey but dill prolly wanted him gone because he didnt like him... Dill is a hypocrite too... he was getting AWS checks for several years and ain't produce one clip... Kalis called him out on it after that "upriver" bullshit... that photo part is so overrated... but after that dill didnt do anything for about 6 years until Skate More.
Mosaic came out inbetween photo and skatemore, he also almost wone an Oscar for best supporting actor on Osborn show and did a few day in the life things where he ate at remedy diner if I remember coreect
Edit no it was landmark coffe by Chinatown I was way off. Either way that old segment was one of many reasons I had itch to move out here ever since I was a kid
