im sure we’ve all been to the point of near-starvation. surviving on tap water from parks and toilet paper w/ soy sauce. this thread is for the down diggers, mr. hole-in-pockets, and simple people who want to save a few bucks so that they can go to all you can touch tittie bars.

what are the cheapest meals to survive with. i understand cabbage is usually cheap. tuna is reliably reasonably priced, eggs are cheap.

post up your goatmeal poorheads delights. recipes, advice and so on.

and to infinity and beyond - buzz lightyear

If I was going on a long trip in outer space for some reason I’d take a giant bag of hemp seeds. You can survive off of a handful of seeds forever. They have all the stuff you need in them

if you have water and the ability to boil, then lentils, oats, and rice. pretty much the oldest steadily consumed comestible. mostly shelf stable and won't break like eggs. coffee can be crucial for energy and an appetite suppressant. otherwise, canned beans go a long way, are also shelf stable, and don't need to be heated. With the exception of coffee, all of these can be had for between $1-4 USD per lb, with a 15oz can of cooked black beans being able to be bought for a buck.

on top of what everyone else said, i'd add oats, bananas, whatever cheap but decent peanut butter you can find.

hit some sort of discount food chain that has house brand versions of more expensive stuff if you need something like almond or oatmilk.

don't buy white bread, because it wont fill you.

now i don't advocate stealing from local markets, but apples or bananas can be acquired for free with relative ease as long as you only pick one or two of each and forget to put them back.

if you want to flavor up your rice for cheap hit up an asian food store and buy some laoganma or some other spice paste or dip. they also have better and cheaper soy sauce and soy sauce can be a lifesaver when your pantry is otherwise dead and you want to have some flavor with your rice. good source for cheap rice or ramen ingredients.

learning to make a bunch of soups is good. soups are usually cheap to make, can be stretched out, frozen and reheated, and a few ingredients can go a long way. for some cheap carbs you add potatos, or rice on the side, or noodles. you can add beans to make the soup more filling or a boiled egg. i was living off of lentil soup all winter.

Cous cous, I prefer wholemeal. It's easy to store and if you're living out of your car or something you only need hot water and a bowl to make it. Nuts and dry fruit to top up energy throughout the day. Stock up on dry goods like chickpeas and beans.
