i could give a fuck about green day but it's funny to me that people actaully don't think gaga isn't a complete joke. seems to me like she's a busted, no talent bitch that is trying too hard to be marilyn manson and writes the most god awful electronic pop crap.

I don't like her music because Dance Pop really isn't my thing, but one thing I do respect is that she writes her own lyrics. Billboard is pretty much shit nowadays, but its probably not a coincidence that she's had a bunch of #1's. Odds are she's going to have staying power within "Top music".

What gets me is her trying to become the new age Marilyn Manson. Not amusing, stylish, or artistic. Whatever she's aiming for.

Also seems like she goes out of her way to have an image as a slutty Bi-sexual girl.

she isnt very hot though which actually i kind of respect her more cause every female artist has to be a super model first and foremost (which means that her career is stricly image not music at all, madonna is the o.g. of that but at least she actually had to be able to sing cause there was no auto tune back then)



at least shes playing something live (although its probably simple)
at least is kind of being different but mostly just strange especially considering the type of music she makes.

green day is just terrible on all accounts. punk was already so merked by the time they stepped on the scene and emo'd it out and now its so overdone make up fashion show anti punk bullshit going on its just disgusting. you are going to hear that guy on auto tune any minute now.

but how can you say "at least she's playing something" like it's some accomplishment for gaga but then dismiss green day who always have been a real band that plays live and writes their own songs.

it's funny though that pop music is so bad that you get extra credit for actually knowing how to sing or play an instrument.

i can appreciate that green day at least had to make some sort of come up through doing small shows across USA where bands like fallout boy or whatever just got their moms to pay for them to be on a record label  + to be played on the radio.

however green day recycles riffs all the tiem - for example their new song uses the exact same chorus as "Beverly Hills". they have hardly even changed anythign about the band since day 1. every song is extremely simple to play, has bad lyrics, has done nothing new for music. messages are always real tame and weak. "War is bad". no shit.

then there are bands like red hot chili peppers or foo fighters who have actually stayed good throughout all the years and have changed their styles a lot (beacuse no one wants to hear the same album put out twice i.e. dookie/insomniac) the only thing boosted for this band is their makeup budget.

foo fighters has always sucked, grohl should only be a drummer and the best band he was ever in was nirvanna. chilli peppers have been complete shit for over 20 years and before that they were just ok. green day was also ok a long ass time ago but have long since started sucking.

for bands from that era that don't suck now i'd say dino jr and sonic youth are doing better than most but their new shit doesn't really do anything for me either and is really only good for getting me in the mood for their old stuff.

all the pop and revivial shit seems pointless when there are so many good new bands that are off the radar and actually in their prime. i enjoyed the XXs album way more than the new sonic or dino and they are just a bunch of 17 year old kids. but it shows that when is more important than who most of the time in music.

haha, i wouldnt pick up an album frrom any of those bands, but they are better than everything else that is on the radio from what i can gather. remember that smashing pumpkins band zwan, that shit was fucking terrible. i dont even like radioheads new shit either.

obviously the better stuff is the underground shit, thats how its been since like 80 when madonna dropped. ever since image marketing hit music like that shit hasnt been the same it hasnt been about talent. thats why the 70s actually had really good famous musicians, you actually had to be good to be able to get a deal in the first place and even go to be able to record the shit.

i think it's because the internet is where people who are looking for better music use while people who don't really care still rely on tv and radio. there's tons of good band\electronic type music out there.

the real shame is hip hop. when i was making my best albums of 2009 list there wasn't a single hip hop album that i could find that was even decent.

But like you said, there's so many better bands out right now than these old bands trying to hold on to the dream.

Rather listen to a band like The Killers or MGMT than GreenDay at this point.

i agree with the dude above me. you gatta get under the crappy mainstream shit to get to the real hip hop. i haven't herd a legit rap song on the radio for a few years, except for some stations that play back in the day shit on sunday mornings. eminem's relapse wasn't the best but it was still amazing(except for the regular shit). dre hasn't put out an album for like 10 years but his rapping on relapse was good as fuck. and there's a lot of underground shit  that you don't hear unless your real into hiphop. and people who kinda fell of mainstream like jeezy are still putting shit out that's pretty good.

another amazing album this year was Heltah Skeltah DIRT but that may have even been late 08/ early 09
im trying to think what else was good, AOTP didnt put anything out except the king syze album and that was only so-so
stones throw didnt really put anything out that i was too hyped on...

Never liked Green Day, actually I was going through my record collection a couple of day ago, and threw out (amongst other things) a copy of Basket Case, that I had from '94. I think that says it all.

I was a really big fan of late 80s/early 90's east bay punk and was really into the music that Gilman St. had to offer at the time, so I have a soft spot for early green day; Their newer stuff is terrible though.
