M.I.A - "Born Free" video. GNAR
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:34:11 AM »
I had a look and couldn't see that anybody had posted this yet, so here you go. Video is by Romain Gavras, if you're familiar with his previous work (like the video for Justice's "Stress") then you'll know that he doesn't fuck around when it comes to being ruthlessly visceral. Really like the track too, it's got me excited for M.I.A's new album after being concerned it was going to be shitty. Don't watch this if you're squeamish or are particularly sensitive about having Ginger hair...

that seemed like a super-expensive video for a pretty weak idea. couldn't really tell if the song was any good because it had 4 minute intervals of "action". weak imo.

the video is a remake of some avant garde 70's film and the song is just MIA saying gibberish over a Suicide song.

so much for originality

Rapper in sampling other artist's beats shocker!   ;)

So nobody thought the video was even slightly good? I watched the explosion at 8:30 about 10 times trying to work out what was used for body parts. Maybe I'm just fucked in the head.

Cuddlemonster I thought the production values seemed high for what is a pretty simple idea too, but I read that it's supposedly a metaphor for the Sri Lankan army massacring the Tamil Tigers in their 'clean up' operation a few years ago. Kinda gave it an extra added dimension of meaning for me, at least.

Good song, good video.  Maybe not as revolutionary as some people paint her.. but it's still cool and not worth getting upset over.
