Protective gear
« on: October 29, 2021, 11:58:40 PM »
What's the haps with protective gear around here? Taboo to even talk about? I was always told to wear protection. At 31 with 2 kids I can't really afford not to.

I recently ordered some $15 "ProForce" martial arts shin guards on Amazon to throw under my pants because my shins are getting obliterated. Also dug up an old pair of lightly padded Mechanic M-Pact gloves I used to use for mountain biking; pretty sure I've bruised the bone at the end of my palm (radius/ulna?) so that should soften any blow at least a little.

What helmets/pads/wrist protection do you use?

I am 38 and haven't been using protection coz don't feel comfortable wearing it, but after i broke my wrist 2 years ago i have started to wear wrist guards very often. I know it's mental but i feel i skate better without them, only the pain makes me put them. I bought pro-tec but the quality didn't match the price, the i bought a cheap pair from decathlon which is not comfortable but works fine, and this monday i found a pair of rollerblade wrist guards in a thrift store for 2 dollars that are super comfy. Well i guess now it is more health over fashion.

I wear a wrist guard on the hand that hurts the most. I use those soccer shin protectors when I took too many shinners until it heals up, works great.

My mom found a set of elbow and knee protectors in the attic but I don‘t need them for street. Might put them on if I can muster the courage to step to a mini ramp or bowl at some point but as long as I can shred school yards and street spots I don‘t really see why I would do that.
why come?

Wrist guards when one gets sore. Unfortunately, most aren’t rigid enough for a full size dude. I’ve also worn a gforce (gform?) soft knee pad on my front knee when I was relearning mini ramp after developing a chronic bruise on the out side of it from too many hang-up-to-flatbottom slams. I’ll bust out the protec and knee pads somewhere around 6’ on transition- just gets hard on the knees to run everything out and I never learned the buttslide.
