Baker Boards made in China
« on: November 19, 2025, 01:02:02 AM »
Posted this in the woodshop thread already, the first chinese made Baker Boards arrived in Europe.

Has anyone any info on this? Do they exist in the US too?
Anyone seen one in the wild?
The shape looks like the OG-shape in the pictures,
wood, concave and kicks remind me of girl/choco at first glance and the kicks look steeper.
It’s a Brand Logo 8.5 and 8.38. In blue and green veneers as background.
These don’t  seem to appear in the Baker Catalogue.

Edit: found a 8.25 and 7.875  Brand Logo in the same colors in another shop here and they state chop-chop woodshop..
B2 shapes in 8.25 and 8.5 now uploaded too..

Another shop states chop-chop/DSM..

There seem to be Deathwish Boards as well, looks like Bakerboys distribution is following the DLX model..

I think the only china made baker boards we get here in the US are the completes. But if they are dsm then I wouldn't be bummed one bit.

Kicks look steeper.
This old article links DSM to Chop Chop. Don’t know if this is old news.

I feel like a lot of companies use DSM to produce their boards for APAC and EU distribution.

Ugh it seems that a lot of companies are using DSM/Chop Chop etc for their boards for distribution outside of the US. I am not a fan of the China boards. Too steep and too stiff plus they lack that lovely BBS "scoop" concave that goes through the kicks. I live in NZ and well over 50% of the new boards here are Chinese origin and this has been steadily rising since covid times. I've been snapping up any cheaper BBS boards with suitable dims in case they are not available in the future!

Yeah, I’ m in Europe and have been noticing a strong increase in that direction as well. I understand the reasons for this and don’t want to discuss politics or economics behind it.

I want to talk about how this could develop.

At first it was an extra and cheaper option, but if it goes on like this, us, the market outside the USA is gonna have less and less choices.
DLX is a prime example, at first you had both and now even the eagles are epoxy.
(Wasn’t there a rumored promise this would never happen?)

To be fair, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Baker in my country for now. Emailed my local and they said they have a choice between Mexican and Chinese made and they were told it’s gonna stay that way. I hope this is true and doesn’t go the DLX Route.

Right now it looks like it’s going in a bad direction for people that don’t like the epoxy boards. As I said before, I m happy for those that like em, but don’t forget about the people that don’t.
It is just a new option that has pros but also cons like the non epoxy version.
Would be sad to see one version not be available anywhere outside the USA anymore.
So I also get why this topic isn’t interesting to most people living in America, yet.
Because for you it’s just more and cheaper options.
But here, if you don’t like the epoxy boards, your choices are getting slimmer and slimmer. If you like DLX (like I did), there’s no more normal non epoxy choices..
And the shops can’t choose to order any.

And this doesn’t feel good from a customer point of view.

I am the same - been buying BBS wood to keep a good stash for NOT if but more so WHEN it is no longer available to me, as it is definitely my preferred option and I happily take graphics off if I can get the board shape and feel I want, more than anything else.

Not to derail this thread, but what size do you usually ride?  You can send me a message if you like, or would rather not talk too much here.

Always keen to hear more about it, to help add to the Woodshop thread too, when there are changes like this.

Unless DSM made some new molds to include "spoon concave" these would just be the usual DSM standards, but even that is not so much the point, more that they have fewer options for any given country outside of USA, in particular for those who do prefer BBS boards.

It is late here and I am probably going round in circles, so will leave it at that for now.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
