Vans Question - real quick
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:45:44 AM »
I've been skating Adidas for six years, now I'm looking at Vans TNTs and the Crocketts. Anyone recommend one over the other? And are either shoe comparable to anything Adidas makes?

Thanks for your time!

i haven't skated the tnt's but the crockets is a good shoe.  the waffle cup may take a min to get used to for you but is definitely amazing considering the grip yet they don't hurt your feet like a typical vulc shoe.  I skated busenitz for the first time it was my first pair of adidas skate kicks and when those were done i went back to vans and it took me a day to get used to the flick and grip again but i was really happy i went back to it.

spool:  I skate in Adidas almost exclusively.  Tried the Crockets this summer.  They are similar to a little bit stiffer Buz Vulc, with a little less board feel (although the Crockett soles will last you longer for sure), a little more room in the toes, and a little less heel lock.  I didn't love them, but they were a good shoe. Wore the same size as in Adidas.

The Crocketts were murder on my heel and pinky toe. I got huge blisters in those areas on both feet. Once they wore in they were pretty good shoes however.

Are your feet wider?  I've found most of my vans ( minus the eras ) were less forgiving in that way then any Adidas I've had

Good timing of this thread. Was also looking at the Crocketts.

Anyone have any feedback on the Chima?

Way worse than the Crocketts. Don't do it.

Thanks Hash. I've heard mixed things at both ends of the spectrum about the Chima. It seems to be either all or nothing.

The dark red leather pair originally caught my attention.

I'm skating Vans right now. If you're keen on trying out Vans, go with the Crocketts. They're cupsoles(wafflecup) and Vans' only shoe close to the "technology" other shoes offer. Vans Chima is all about boardfeel while offering very little protection on impacts due to the ultracush lite insole. Vans Era PRO, Halfcabs PRO, Slip-ons PRO are all vulc with Ultracush HD insole, more protection, less boardfeel. Finally, there's the AVE model, Vans AV Classic. Ortholite insole. No protection at all, 100% boardfeel.

Impact protection --> Ultracush HD <> Ultracush Lite <> Ortholite <-- Boardfeel

Also. If it takes you 1 month to kill a pair of Janoski's. Then it'll take you around 1.5 weeks to destroy a pair of Vans. No joke.

Skating ZX Vulcs right now, switched from crocketts.

The crocks rub my pinky toe as well, irritating as fuck, also, I find they run big and the lack of tongue loop really pissed me off.

Neither show fits as well as the DC Mike Mo but I wanted a vulc.

Nah, my feet are small and narrow and I ordered my usual size, which in every other shoe leaves a little extra room. The shoes were not really worth the weeks of pain.

The Crocketts do not breath well. That is a legitimate complaint on my end.

Huf Sutters. Period.

Thanks Hash. I've heard mixed things at both ends of the spectrum about the Chima. It seems to be either all or nothing.

The dark red leather pair originally caught my attention.

I went through the side of the Chimas in less than 10 hrs fwiw.  Leather would definitely help that though.
