And reporting abuse doesn't necessarily result in the kid going into protective custody. Often times the child stays in the home, sometimes reporting to a social worker, while the parent takes anger management courses. Other times, the kid goes with a family member into custody. Its only in very extreme situations where the kid is outright taken away
